Let’s ignore the fact that electricity didn’t exist in G4 and Spike was the only long range communication. This is just extended whining that G5 reflects the modern world. Is anyone complaining about Sunmy’s extensive use of single-use plastics? No. Because the complainers don’t understand or care why it’s a bad thing. But children with technology! Panic!

The thing is, the MLP world does not translate very well to modern world, even in Gen4 the cities were a bit a clash of style when compared to the Mane6 hometown and canterlot… But it was still a old style big city, something like the 50’s era…
I mention Splatoon because it is a futuristic setting, with no magic and all characters are based on humans for a reason, it is the worldbuilding that explains more then just what things look, but why they look that way.
And Posey is basically ponified Squidward, what’s new?
Despite the vice involved in the post, the OP does have a point, but they’re also not meant to be stand-alone characters with a story arc like the CMCs were.
But give it a little time, they might get some more personalized development; there’s a lot to develop and the only thing the team has to go on are a blast of 5-min Internet shorts and a handful of 3D constructed episodes. I haven’t been able to see some the latest shorts, but it looks like there might’ve been some development in a recent episode.

Worldbuilding is considered too expensive unfortunately, and practically nobody is really doing it in any medium. But you’re right about that.
If it’s Sci-fi, they just take modern life, concerns, and tech, and soup it up with more advanced tech. If it’s Fantasy, it’s the inverse. If it’s not strictly either, then it’s just, “Let’s see how many modern concepts we can X-ify!”
@Nauth
Well, making episodes that way is one way to do it. Social media is a thing, but then it is only the focus sometimes. I’d say that this picture is exaggerated.
Also, isn’t Splatoon a video game?🤔
Can we just agree, that implementing social media and cellphones into your TV show does not imdediatly updates it for a modern audience?
Like i know you can make episodes centered around social media and such but do we have to? Does everything we watch must resemble our stupid modern way of life? It is so strange…
And not to say that you cant do it right either, i think Splatoon nailed the whole modern city idea with it’s world and characters, it feels so much more natural and well implemented!
