I am sorry if it came off that way, but I never said anything about deserving punishment or justice. You seem to be mixing up punishment/justice with social vengeance. This is not about exacting a hate on the guilty (which is wrong). I doubt few who understand also see it that way. It is odd that you are so focused on that.

The highest form of morality is to self-sacrifice for the benefit of others, to zero benefit of your own, even if it hurts you. That is the ultimate moral here, that is Friendship. This is what everybody should be doing.

At minimum, you can choose to benefit yourself without reaching out to actively harm others and still maintain some harmony, but it’s a spiteful way to live. We see this with a lot of show antagonists, specifically with greed.

Those who willing to go out of their way to harm others have a name: criminals. We lock them up and punish them so they associate wrongdoing with ill. Punishment is ideal for the benefit of the wrongdoer to learn and turn. Hopefully we curb the behavior, but sometimes it is difficult to tell.

But to knowingly and willingly violate the right of life to others in your whole world for your personal benefit, rejecting multiple counts to turn from evil as with Legion of Doom (including Cozy Glow), you are a living menace to society and should be cut off. Instead at that point, it is no longer about punishment; now we are just culling/protecting society, pausing resources spent to watch the evil, and to make a horrifically fearful example for the benefit of others to behold. These actions should have ultimate and serious consequences. This is necessary because everyone is capable of great evil.
But through this harmony is restored and hopefully maintained.

That is the lesson.

And I’ll leave this: the reasoning is fine, just a matter of choosing to [not] believe this philosophy.

Then you’re just in the minory that cannot accept that there are such things as “murderer children”, whether in Fiction or IRL, there are some things that are hard to describe.

But for the sake of keeping this conversation in Pony land without draging elements from reality, I still hold to my opinion, and i am sure that i speak in the name of many about that little devil:

Your reasoning is still flawed. I don’t care what others say. People here have a crooked sense of justice. I’ll leave off with this. Even if you say or believe that these three deserved punishment, being imprisoned in stone wasn’t the way to do it considering they were already defeated and weakened. What was wrong with just poofing them back to Tartarus? Cozy and Tirek were doing just fine in there until Discord bailed them out. Heroes shouldn’t execute or kill a criminal that’s unarmed and immobilized. That’s not something you should teach kids in a family/children show. But that’s essentially what Celestia, Luna, and Discord did… you can’t refute or deny this statement. “Together forever.” If the intention was to leave them as a stone statue for eternity then they might as well be dead.

I hate this fate that was given to them and everything it stands for while going against the themes of the show, I hate that the writers thought it was okay to draft and greenlight this, and I hate that people are just fine with it. Oh but good to know that I’m a part of a fandom that advocates for children to be allowed to get the death penalty. I’m done here.

Oh I was wondering why the discussions had opened back up. It got featured. But someone just probably found it good dark comedy and just wanted to share rather than thinking it would be debated

I dare to say there’s nowadays many images of Cozy being forgiven and all that, but if any see pictures of Diamond Tiara before 2015 you’d think bronies were a bunch of bloodthirsty guys wanting utter destruction against an actual schoolyard bully.

Oh yeah, somehow I never considered that. Cozy was basically killing thousands little kids just like her. She really is a lot more dangerous than some of the actual superpowered villains before her.

And I mean, many are still advocating punishment for Glimglam and Discord (Me!) nowadays. I don’t think reforming Cozy would make any difference.

Cozy didn’t go to the school with the intention of learning about friendship. She didn’t take the lessons to heart because she was just bullshitting her way through while calculating her plans in the background. So I don’t believe the school is the be all end all reforming school if the person attending has no intentions of forming to begin with.

And I still believe the characters and show failed to really dig deeper into why she is the way she is. I don’t think anyone would have given a crap about Starlight if she had been the one turned to stone and didn’t explain her origin story. What was Cozy’s origin story? What sort of past experience caused her to be the way she is? These are questions that should be answered if we can know for absolute certain if she is as irredeemable as people claim. And yet we don’t know. Because the show didn’t bother to explain to us. Why give us an interesting premise of making a child of all things evil if you aren’t even gonna give us an origin story? It’s just trash writing and I’m tired of people defending and pretending that it isn’t.

This is where my explanation fits.
There was no point in seeing what was up with Cozy Glow.

Discord’s reformation came about after he experienced Friendship for the first time, seeing an alternative to his old lifestyle and the benefits of doing so (forced under threat of being turned back to stone of course). In short, he didn’t know any better.

Cozy Glow was an A+ student at the School of Friendship. She got to not only see Friendship, she was in the best, safest place to practice and exercise Friendship inside and out and she was very good about it. Whatever her reason, it’s likely what prompted her to attend the school in the first place. There is no therapy that would be superior or more beneficial than the School of Friendship (which is literally a reform school with a focus on ideals to cooperating and self-sacrifice).

Despite this, having the best understanding of Friendship, she still consciously rejected it’s inherent principles. She’s irredeemable because she had it all and still chose the path of evil, twice.

Evil is not an external thing that influences behavior. It’s innate. Default mode. The concept of “being good” must be taught and enforced, but ultimately it’s a choice to either listen to the instinctive craving to be selfish or through love or discipline self-sacrifice, self-hurt for the benefits of others.

That’s Friendship.

Despite knowing and understanding this in full, she, Chrysalis (who outright refused to change and give love despite the obvious benefits), and Tirek chose to be evil.

Who’s really the one in denial? I’m telling you they didn’t even bother trying to look into what was up with Cozy Glow. Discord even refused redemption at first and they put more effort into reforming that guy.
