I wouldn’t have a problem with a boyfriend “per se”, I would have a problem with them (the staff, hasbro, whatever) turning the show into yet another generic teenage drama, which I don’t think is gonna happen.
And, should people really dismiss possibilities based on what Faust may or may have not wanted?
@Ebalosus
It would be interesting to see how the comics handle it. I don’t think they should necessarily have official couplings in the comic, however some overt ship teasing would help flesh or the characters a little more, and since the comic’s target audience is adults they don’t have to worry about the kids getting bored. I would love tip see them throw in teases for fluttermac and soarindash.
“Faust had a point when she said that none of the Mane 6 should have a long-term love-interest. That kind of stuff bogs down a good series and it’s really hard to talk about dating intelligently without boring the six-year-olds to tears.”
Twicorn is something that could (and eventually did) conceivably happen within the show’s narrative.
Twilight with a love interest on the other hand… well, this is something that Faust herself said she didn’t want to happen, which is how most (including Faust-worshipers like CR) will consider antithetical to her vision, thus Ruined Forever™
If it isn’t mushy kissy stuff, then I’m fine with it.
If it’s like an actual relationship, and I mean a REAL relationship then I’m ok with it.
If he’s there for show, then no.
@Background Pony
ok, let me rephrase so you understand my point:
A canon mutual relationship of characters where none was before. The Cakes were a couple from the Get Go. Spike and Rarity’s respective infatuations are not reciprocated. If you were to suddenly see “New Boyfriend for Fluttershy” in an episode THEN people will flip their shit.
If you’re going to do ponies in the human world, why not do something crazy like make them a superhero team or something? High school is just about the most generic, cliched, and bland setting they could have chosen. Of course, the goal behind EQG seems to be to make MLP more bland and generic, or as Hasbro calls it, “more accessible.”
As predicted, the whole thing makes me cringe with each new revelation.
Just… why does this exist? Who greenlighted it? Ponies aren’t ponies without pony. Generally only anime does the high school parody thing well because it’s exactly that: a parody.
The only hope for this show is if it doesn’t take itself remotely seriously.
