Sunset Shimmer implied that something would happen with the Element of Magic when in another dimension. She probably needed to take the crown into that other dimension so she could take control of it. Then she could take it to Equestria and rule the world.
That’s what I got, anyway.
I do agree with you about her actions after being defeated. It seems like she did a 180 way too quickly.
I hope Sunset comes back and it turns out that she didn’t truly change her ways; she only pretended to so she could continue her schemes without too much suspicion.
@tetrisman64
Which didn’t even make sense. If the crown was supposed ti be the element of magic, how did it corrupt Sunset Shimmer and turn her into a monster? If it is not the element if magic, then why the heck did Celestia give it to Twilight and not tell her it could be used to create baelful monstrosities in the wrong hands?
That is not even to mention that Sunset immediately stopped acting like a bitch just because she was defeated, and gave a tearful apology despite having had full control over her actions the whole time and been willfully bad.
Ugh… Maybe the people who insist that this movie is not canon actually have a point.
@bboifatz
Ultimately, we don’t really have a known reason for why Sunset wants to take over the world. The only motive given about her is that she thought Celestia wasn’t teaching her enough magic (so her response is to go to a world with no magic what so ever?) and taking over the world is just something she decided to do. Logically (though I think asking this character to think logically is a little much) running an empire would get in the way of studying the arcane.
Her behavior was never more then that of a stupid, petty bitch, so I’m going to believe that’s all she is.
@Cherry Berry
Even if her motivation is that she has a compulsion to be better than Twilight Sparkle, that doesn’t make her motivation any less shallow. If anything it’s even worse, because her motivation is being angry about how perfect the protagonist is.
@bboifatz
People taking over the world don’t necessarily want to be popular. Usually, popular has to do with being well known and liked. Sunset wouldn’t be liked if she took over the world. Sure, she’d be well known, but certainly not liked. She’d already taken over the school, and wanted to take over the world. Sure she’d become popular, but was that really her only motive? I kinda think she wanted to be better than Twilight, in both worlds (since in Equestria Twilight wouldn’t be too much without her real crown), because Sunset hinted when they were talking in the dark part of the hallway that she used to be Celestia’s best student, which she wasn’t anymore because of Twilight.

All it takes is a black personal bag with an inconspicuous hole on the side, and an hd camera can easily be snuck into most any theater. Most movies have a crappy bootleg online within days of release, and given how rampant piracy is in this fandom, I suspect EQG will be no different.
Not to mention it’s more easier now than ever, look at how friggin tiny those cell-phone cams are, and even dedicated digital cameras. There’s basically no way at all to prevent it at this point.
