SO? It’s not really insulting, it’s silly, it’s cute, and Spike is my second favorite character, I don’t see it as anything bad. Besides, who knows what he’ll actually be like in the movie.

The fact that he isn’t treated like a pet on the show (nor does he act like one) is what’s insulting to many.
To see a character that plays the role of assistant, best friend, and little brother to the protagonist, be degraded to such a degree, is what’s insulting.
But I feel like Hasbro decided to make a movie that would be very much independent of the show, so that bronies may choose to disregard it completely if they want to. What they didn’t know is that many bronies would make it their business.

A sentient supporting character with an extremely important support job is turned into a (seemingly) speech-less pet. And more then likely Twilight won’t give a damn about while freaking out about herself.
