So i think it’s pretty much symbolic for the pain that King Sombra caused on these ponies.

What also makes me think that is that one female pony that Twilight attempts to speak to for information, she seems rather terrified at the name of Sombra. It could be just fear from the enslavement, but it could be much more.

Fair enough. I was just thinking that perhaps, to get dragons on his side, Sombra could have given them a constant supply of Crystal ponies. A sort of Lion King deal (Scar and the hyenas). Of course, that’s a stretch, seeing as there aren’t any dragons around in this episode other than Spike.

Probably, but I also believe they eat meat when it’s easy to get. Crystal ponies are two birds, one stone, I guess.

A little unrelated, but do you guys think that dragons can eat crystal ponies? On account of them being, well, crystal?

Not to mention he DIED when his plans were thwarted by the Mane Six.

I’d like to think that he was much like the Spanish when they arrived to the New World. Enslaving Indians, raping the women, etc.
 
Of course, this is a kids show, so I’ll leave that side plot to the fanfic writers.

In A Canterlot Wedding, they state greedy unicorns mined crystals underneath the city. Maybe he got an obsession and went up North when he heard there were ponies made of crystals up there.

I think he’s basing that off that it seems all the crystal ponies are earth ponies and he thinks of them as slaves.

Is that he calls them his crystal slaves instead of just slaves, He only enslaved the crystal empire out if all of equestria, My headcanon is that he thinks being born a crystal pony is a sin and should be punished for it

I like the concept of a villain who’s got layer upon layer of premade traps and who’s presence is mostly experienced from afar. Not too hot on the lack of lines, but that could be chalked up to him being disembodied in ice for a millennium. Maybe a new appearance will have him acting more eloquently.

Personally, what I like about him is that he’s less a character and more a part of the atmosphere, or the situation itself. He doesn’t even seem to have much of a mind left; The episodes’ threat might as well have been a natural disaster, like a flood or hurricane. You don’t see that kind of villain often.

Sombra might not have alot of screentime but what i find creepy about him is that you can feel his presence throughout the course of the episodes.  
They know what this Unicorn is capable of and they are all afraid of him. I find it interesting when Twilight talks to this one Crystal Pony and you know that he done something terrible to these Ponies. They didn’t remember anything about their previous Lifes only the pain and suffering there where going through.
