If you wanted to be a plumber, than what’s the problem with a plumber cutie mark? If you changed your mind, than you wouldn’t have gotten a plumber cutie mark. You only get it from finding a lifelong interest or passion, which still isn’t necessarily your job or the whole of your life.
 
You’re also making the assumption that the cutie mark would be straightforward. Cheerilee has flowers for teaching, Rainbow’s mark can be interpreted in at least three obvious ways, and Twilight’s cutie mark is too abstract to map to anything intuitively.
 
The cutie mark identifies you, not some passing hobby or employment.

Well, I’m not sure. I will say this. The series has been getting better beginning in season 2. I am not sure if Rob Renzetti’s impact on the show was great or not, but given his reputation he could make it better. However, since FiM is increasing in quality, I don’t think it would be worth decreasing another show’s quality.

If they didn’t, well, the most nitpicky of details will be used to say why it was terrible and if anyone liked it, then they are an idiot because if they were truly “intelligent” they’d see it for the piece of shit that it is.
 
Remember if you can get the creators to throw up their hands and say “I don’t know” at the smallest of details then you’ve proven them to be hacks who never should have written anything in the first place!

Well, if your willing to get metaphorical, the spell did turn lead (a mortal) into gold (divine).

I still like going with the “Twilight completely messed up what Starswirl was trying to do” theory. Like that he was trying to turn lead into gold or something.

… It’s fucking magic. Like, do people in this fandom keep forgetting that fictional worlds need not always be explained with real-world logic? Yes, it does help the immersion, but willingness to suspend disbelief is still a good habit to get into when reading or watching something. Helps creativity and all that, yaddah yaddah.

When I was a kid, like 5, I wanted to do one of two things: be an astronaut, or be a plumber. I kind of changed my mind on both.

You’d only get the toilet cleaning (janitorial?) cutie mark if you wanted to do that, though. While ponies have been shown doing jobs that they don’t want or care for, they only get cutie marks for things that they like.

Well, that’s obviously and demonstrably false.

Nobody gives a shit what the spell was supposed to do. The point is it was incomplete and the greatest wizard ever couldn’t fix it, but Twilight managed to with smarts and friendship. It could have been a spell to make pudding treats for all its relevance.
 
As for why someone would create a spell to swap cutie marks/destinies, think about how much it must suck to have a toilet cleaning cutie mark. Starswirl would’ve made mad cash selling a spell like that.

I just can’t even pretend to care anymore. I’m not going to take people looking too hard into the story of a silly cute pony series seriously, ever.
