Stories from bronies that were playing along before most were eventually banned said that a good chunk of that subscription count was nothing but alternate and sock poppet accounts.

Eh, one of reddit’s “flaws” in my eyes is that they lean too heavily on the free speech aspect.  
This is the same site that had /r/creepshots and /r/jailbait for a while, before they wised up and laid down SOME standards, after all.
