I love what the Super Robot Wars titles that feature NGE do with Shinji. They show what caused him to become the way he is in the show and what he would be like, if he was surrounded by supportive people instead of people that have as much emotional baggage as he does. The results are glorious.

Also I’m like 99% sure that Applejack and RD could beat Asuka like a drum if it came down to that.
