@semerl
Sit back and learn how regular civil people interact. It doesn’t take a scholar to understand what a vulgar hostile comment consists of.
Try going up to random people in real life and call them inbred horse fuckers or what have you. Did you feel that fist in your face? That’s called learning. Sooner or later (depending on how many times you need to attempt this before it sinks in) you may figure out that it’s not acceptable to do that anymore.
FYI, we’re not talking one-strike-you’re-out bans here, so hopefully you’ll learn how to interact with one another eventually.
@soundtea
SA is moderated by vast amounts of opinion and butthurt. Every moderator does whatever the hell they want, and bans whoever they want based solely on how hard their feelings were hurt or how unfunny they found a certain post.
It is by far the worst moderated site on the internet. 4chan as a whole has much better, consistent and fair moderation than SA.
@Dale
The truth is, most of the bans that are issued due to personal attacks/insulting posts come from me.
If you honestly think that calling someone a faggot, asshole, dickhead, etc. is acceptable civil behavior, then you just might need to learn the hard way what “being excellent to each other” means.
For example, if you say something like “I don’t like your opinion, jerk”, that’s not something to sweat over. Toss out something along the lines of “Go fuck yourself and die in a fire, autist”, then you best be expecting to have a day off as a result.
I do not care what people think of me if that’s what their definition of excellence is.
@Dale
TheLoneLampman follows the same rules other staff members do, he simply has more tolerance to read through all these comments. By and large moderator action is decided between at least two other moderators in the admin IRC*. If someone gets moderated, it’s not because one staff member wanted it, it’s because one highlighted it and two others agreed action was necessary.
*excepting cases where things are painfully obvious
Let me try again. People generally think they’re following the rules, whatever they have to twist around in their head to justify it. Another admin passes through, and they’re not banned, now they really think they’re following the rules. You show up, and they are banned. They’re not gonna think they broke the rules, they’re just gonna think that you, personally, are a dick and/or Incarnation of Scruffy.
Being stricter than the other admins isn’t going to accomplish anything other than making everyone resent you personally. Especially when you come out and say you’re gonna enforce differently from the other admins. You’re putting a giant ‘SCAPEGOAT ME’ sign on yourself. Y’all need to be conferencing in secret and presenting a united front to the users.
@semerl
I believe censorship has no place where none is enforced nor expected.
I fully believe in censorship where it is enforced and expected.
To use all-or-nothing mentality is foolish as there’s a time and place for everything.
