@SeraphimDawn you know, while watching a funtasia thread I noticed a discussion about this and I just realised what it is these modern ‘toons are doing.
 
Modern parents will split their shit over any sort of ‘perceived danger’ to any kid even if fictional, no, especially if fictional and so they are making teenaged manchildren so they can have that ‘moronic younger brother’ character in a show with snippets of villainy or adventure yet avoid parental scrutiny by upaging their body, but not their mentality. That’s why all their voices have that slight mocking whinyness.

Nah, more like Snips&Snails minus the dumbness. Listen to his ‘i caaaaaught it i caaaaught it’ line there. My guess is he’ll be similar to those annoying frogs in the old TMNT cartoon, or Martin in Martin Mystery, or Cal from Tara Duncan. He just sounds really ‘dudebro’ and shore-ish to me.

Honestly, Flash Sentry looked like he could’ve been one of those types of male characters, instead of that generic cool guy type. Twilight however, judging from her experience with Pinkie, might not like that type. Instead, she prefers a colt with antics more similar to her brother.

@K_A There’s probably a little bit of ‘the clip makes him seem loud and annoying’ too. So not just irony but ironic reflection too.

I mean the content going for it is massively superior to anything I’ve seen related to Care Bears. I think it’s good to reserve judgment until you watch the show. I mean, when I first saw a post of an MLP advertisement back in 2010, it looked to me like it would be bland (though even then well designed) pseudo-anime stuff. We may yet to appreciate what this show really has to offer beyond the trailer.
 
But, seriously, Willow looks like he came off some snobby teen’s dA page. Why him? Then again, that’s probably part of the troll.

I haven’t seen the show yet, so could somebody explain why I should be angered by the sight of this male pony?

The trailer didn’t look bad. It’s not FiM-caliber material, but it didn’t seem atrocious. It should have legs comparable to Littlest Pet Shop.
