I love how you two have been going back and forth about the Ceestia/Twilight relationship in a Spike/Twilight image… especially since everything you’ve both said about Celestia and Twilight’s relationship could be applied to Spike and Twilight’s relationship.
Does Twilight treat Spike the way that she does because seeing him reminds her that she never really had a childhood? With or without raising him, she was bookish and introverted. He is an avatar for her responsibilities.
Spike, on the other hand, attempts to please Twilight and be there for her. She reciprocates with love and affection at times, but at other times she merely treats him as an employee, or is even violent with him. No wonder he’s snarky and sarcastic… his life has taught him that it’s the only way he has to deal with Twilight’s ever-changing states and view of him.
