On the contrary, they did react to their fellows being zapped by Twilight, and for those reactions were zapped in turn. Pinkie Pie, it should be noted, was the most unfazed of all. The fact that they ignored it and participated in the test at all is a sign of self preservation, because failing the test meant doom.

I don’t mind original characters, as long as they don’t make another “Chris Thorndyke” taking the main character role away from Sonic.

Y’know, Dave Polsky is writing for the new upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog show to, I hear.

Polsky wrote this episode. He doesn’t seem to think too deeply about the implications of what he writes. He just wants his gags, and that’s it.

Seeing as how the clones treated the test like a game and were unfazed by what Twilight was doing to their fellows, I don’t think getting sent back to the mirror pool is that big a deal.

@Background Pony #EFB1
There was some serious clone degeneration going on, especially in the later ones. Barely sapient I’d say, especially since they lacked any instinct of self-preservation whatsoever (as evidenced by them taking part in the contest). I see very little ethical problems with erasing magical constructs of poor quality.
Background Pony #F9C9
they were a nuisance, plain and simple. they got what they deserved, and now this one better hope it can hide. ^^

Just….forget it. I was never here.
I should know to stay out of arguments regarding Too Many Pinkie Pies…..

@InvaderSplooge
You’re going to have to be more specific. What is the “this” that is ridiculous? Is it the argument, is it the episode, is it some subjective, meta-narrative concept of what you think “children’s cartoons,” are supposed to be, or are you suggesting that logic and reason are somehow ridiculous in nature?

….A line has been crossed when talk of an episode of a children’s cartoon has devolved into an argument about religion and human(pony) rights.
It’s time to take a step back and realize how ridiculous this all is…..
Background Pony #F5B0
There are a number of human religions that propose the concept of a better existence after death, yet still condemn the act of killing people. Even if the other side of the mirror pool was heaven, the clones didn’t want to go, and that’s what is important.

• They could feel. Pinkie Pie’s first clone was presented with a dilemma and broke down in tears by the end.
• They could perceive. This one is a no brainer.
• They were able to have subjective experiences. First Pinkie Pie was able to relate her experiences from memory in her own words.
• They were able to reason. First Clone was given an objective: go to Applejack’s barn raising so they could be at all the fun things at once. She observed a conflicting option and was able to infer that she would fail, altered her own plan, and was able to explain her reasoning in words to Real Pinkie Pie later.
• They had individuality. If they were all the same, they would have all failed the test simultaneously.
• They had self-awareness. They recognized that they were separate and distinct from other people, including each other, showing off their own abilities to gain recognition; and were able to comprehend the consequences ceasing to exist, when they stopped going fun crazy to participate in the test.
• They had creativity. They were shown to be able to do things that they had never seen before, like making crazy faces.
• They had the ability to comprehend abstract concepts, such as speech.
• They were able to learn. They didn’t know the names of Pinkie Pie’s friends to start with, but they learned.
• They were able to make Value Judgements, and thus displayed Sapience. First Pinkie Clone worries about what she should do, and has to explain to Real Pinkie Pie why it is a real problem, which proves that it was not autonomous behavior.
• They had independence. The real Pinkie Pie had no more control over them than any other pony.

Even though they were childish, unruly and distractible, they pass every test I can think of for being alive, sapient and self-aware.

Furthermore, the assertion that you can pat attention to something simply by wanting it bad enough is demonstrably false. People want to stay alive, yet fall asleep at the wheel on a regular basis. Every year, thousands of people die because of this.

@Evowizard25
As I said, I find it highly likely that this would be the first clone(Tyrone), as she seemed more like an actual pony rather than a shallow bundle of fun.
Evowizard25

Yeah….What was with Twilight in this episode?

I mean, her method of finding the real Pinkie was stupid. {The episode pretty much cemented that the clones had none of Pinkie’s memories. They mention it several times and I thought that was how they were going to figure it out. But nope, watching paint dry is the solution.}

And then when the process starts, Twilight just keep firing without abandon, scattering the clones…Yeah…A part of me thinks she enjoyed it. {Her and Pinkie don’t really get along that well. They’re okay, but Twilight often looks down on her and finds her annoying.}

I wouldn’t have much of a problem, but I remembered the first clone…I felt so sorry for her.

I mean, this was a good episode. The ending just detracted from it.

My Little Pony - 1992 Edition

I still contend that that episode was a lot darker than folks realize. If Twilight Sparkle was so worried about returning the “real” Pinkie Pie to the mirror pool by accident, that meant that she could. And if she could, then what fundamental difference was there between the “real” Pinkie Pie and the clones?

My morbid head-canon is that Twilight knew and didn’t care. She wasn’t selecting for the “real” Pinkie Pie; she just wanted to keep the one with the longest attention span. We’re just assuming that that one was the “real” Pinkie Pie.

from what was shown they were less killed and more……. well returned. maybe the well is full of strange spirits that take on the form of anyone who sues it. either way, their essecne returned to where it belongs.

Well, the original plan involved a shotgun and 5 gallons of gasoline. Trust me, they’re better off being stuck on their own dimension.

A rather “dark” look at that episode.

Wondering if that one’s Tyrone. She seemed a bit more self-concious than the rest of the clones.
