Surprisingly, they’re releasing a download-patch for the WiiU Sonic Boom game in Europe (no word yet for other countries) which is supposedly going fix the “Sonic Boom” game. Said patch is pretty huge, about as big as a download WiiU title itself, so it better. (And better yet, include it in all the new game disc copies of the game.)

Both designs are pretty good. I think perhaps the cartoonier G4 style though might be a bit more unique, and probably what makes the new show seem more accessable. But yeah the G1 style looked more like actual ponies.

Who knows? Though a game being “bad” is subjective overall. I even admit I actually liked the controversial “Shadow the Hedgehog” game despite it’s flaws.

When I first pointed out the show to her, my sister wasn’t terribly fond of the designs either, but now she’s buying the merchandise after all. (Personally, I prefer the more pony-like G1 designs, but the G4 designs definitely work better for animation.)

The opposite for me, made me actually like Sonic 06 and tempted me to play it…I didn’t think one bad game in a franchise could make you want to play another bad game in the same franchise.

Alot of G1/G3 fans were like that actually. (In fact, some still are. One girl remarked they look like “mice”)  
Even I admit, I thought the new G4 “Lauren Faust” style looked odd at first, but it grew on me, and now I like it.

Could you imagine how long time MLP fans (or at least, those who somehow grew up with MLP) took to the FiM design? I know my sister was like ‘WTF’ when she saw Friendship is Magic for the first time three years ago–she said ‘they don’t even look like horses!’

Surprisingly, the “Black Nerd Comedy” guy actually liked WiiU “Sonic Boom.” So it probably depends on a person’s preferences, or if they can tolerate it’s flaws. Nothing is really as bad as Sonic2006 was.
 
In fact, personally I liked the controversial “Shadow”-solo game, and I didn’t really like the more positive-scoring “Sonic and the Secret Rings.”

Well, they said previously there were no plans to bring “Sonic Boom” to Japan yet awhile ago. Sonic’s not really as popular in Japan as he is in other countries.
 
Yeah, the Sonic games always had a lose canon. (Remember Eggman blowing up half the moon in SA2? Dispite all games afterwords show the moon completely in tact, even the “Shadow” game which was a direct sequel to SA2 & “Heroes.”) But then again so does the Mario series, and other games, so it’s not a big deal.
 
I still don’t think “Boom” will have any influence over the game canon, (even the new SSB still uses the Yuji Uekawa Sonic design) considering none of the other Sonic cartoons did much, (otherwise we’d have Sally, and Bokkun in the games to) aside from making chili dogs Sonic’s favorite food.
 
Even the games that had references to the old American cartoons, (Sonic Spinball, and Mean Bean Machine) didn’t have any effect on the other games.
 
Interestingly, though… Some hackers found sprites of the SatA.M. Robotnik design in the data for the obscure Japan-only arcade game “Sega Sonic Arcade” (the one where Mighty & Ray originated from) which might’ve meant they planned on using them for an American release of the game to tie into the cartoon/comics of the time.  
There was also a scrapped Eggman redesign for “Sonic Adventure” where he had a robotic arm like the SatA.M. (and early Archie) Robotnik.

Actually, the game (and presumably show) have been confirmed for Japan under the incredibly lame name “Sonic Toon.” Wonder what will happen when/if this version gets popular. I for one wouldn’t mind either way. I love the mainline games (well, not 06, but the less said there, the better), but the cannon is about as mangled as Castlevania at this point.

It’s amazing how many people forget that, or don’t know that… It still annoys me whenever I see somebody refer to “Sonic Boom” as a “reboot.”
 
A “reboot” means, they’re “rebooting” the entire continuity, and replacing it with a new one, which they ARN’T doing to the main Sonic video game canon.  
“Sonic Boom” is a completely different spin-off canon series, (much like all the previous Sonic TV Shows, and comics were) that isn’t going to effect the current main game canon.  
(Heck, Smash Bros. is still using the post-SA Sonic design without the scarf, and such further confirming this.)
 
In fact, Sega stated there’s not even plans to bring “Sonic Boom” to Japan, (neither the show, or game adaptions) the place where Sonic originated from. So it’ll likely also have NO influence over the Japanese-made Sega games whatsoever.
 
This makes the complaints about them “rebooting” Sonic ironic, and such.

I’m sorry but I need to say this. Sonic Boom is a SPIN-OFF, not a reboot.

Indeed, amazingly, I’ve seen some even turn around, and still complain even when said series gives them what they want, or something they’ve been whining for…
 
Like I remember when a semi-popular Sonic character called Princess Sally Acorn who was (temporarily) roboticized (turned into a robot) in the official Sonic comic book series, fans began begging Archie/Sega, and comic writer Ian Flynn NOT to kill off Sally, (which Ian later stated he never intended to do) and turn her back. (They were afraid she was going to remain a robot forever, or get destroyed, or something for some reason.)  
…Then when Ian gave them their wish, and turned her back to normal, though with a new outfit, (and slightly more Sega-ish look designed by Ben Bates) some Sally-fans turned around, and started saying they’d rather he of killed her off then give her a new outfit/look, “ruining” her… Oy vey…  
(Funny thing is, the fan-drama over Sally’s “change,” happened around the same time as the “Twilicorn” drama started in the brony fanbase.)
 
Not to mention the fans bellyaching that they want the old chubby Sonic back, so Sega brings him back in “Sonic Generations,” and some still complained because the green-eyed Sonic was still in the game to, or found something else to complain for hours about… (Usually, something not even related to the gameplay, or game’s flaws…)
 
Somebody once called me Derpibooru’s residant “Sonic fan/expert,” (not sure if they intended that as flattering, or not) but honestly, even I’m confused by the logic some fans have.

Certain “Sonic fans” and “Bronies (MLP fans)” are no different from how they act when it comes to complaints. They can’t be equally satisfied no matter what.

Doesn’t surprise me… Also, ironic Sonic fans are so butthurt over the redesigns, considering they aren’t permanent, and only going to be for the “Sonic Boom” TV show, and it’s WiiU & 3DS game adaptions. (In fact, Sega said the “Sonic Boom” show isn’t going to be brought to Japan. Probably ‘cause Sonic is not very popular there. Anthropomorphic characters aren’t very popular in Japan usually, and usually considered just for kids.)
 
Similarly, some people actually thought the “Rainbow Power” forms for the ponies were going to be permanent redesigns. Ironically, they aren’t, and were only featured in the show (so far) for 2 minutes.

I haven’t played “Black Knight,” but all I know about it is, it made Sonic’s fondness of chili dogs (from the old cartoons/comics) canon in the games. (Though, I heard chili dogs were listed as his favorite food in the Japanese manual for “Sonic Advance 3.” So it might’ve always been canon, just never regarded in the game canon until recently.)

Same here. I find Sonic and the Black Knight a guilty pleasure. My Score 6.5/10 But it still has some great moments and some fun elements. So I hope that Sonic Boom does turn out good like Colors and Generations.

Yeah, not all Sonic games are perfect, but I even enjoyed some of the flawed ones personally. The Shadow game had issues, but I still enjoyed it.
 
Ironically, I hate “Sonic & the Secret Rings,” and it got tons of good reviews on sites like IGN. (Which oddly scored it higher then the original Sonic Adventure games.)
