Take the box to the nearest building site, put it in a barrel, and fill it with concrete. Then take the resulting block of concrete to the coast and hire someone to dump it out at sea.
So I’m thinking, if this is Discord and his powers are restrained, letting him out will let him free, which could be bad; on the other hand, if he gets free because someone else let him out, he may well have a grudge against those who saw him and didn’t let him out. If this is Discord and he has his full powers and he’s screwing with you, then again, failing to let him out is more likely to either offend him or cause you to fail his test, so while he will probably screw with you if you let him out, he’s likely to screw with you worse if you don’t. If he doesn’t have his powers, the only safe alternative is to kill him, but if he does have his powers, attempting to kill him could be fatal, and will possibly earn severe retaliation.
I think the only safe thing that can be done is to let him out. Given the significant possibility that he’s screwing with you or testing you, failing to let him out is dangerous and trying to kill him is suicidal. Those options are only meaningful if you know for a fact that he is powerless in the box… but all you know is that he’s begging you to let him out, in a childish tone of voice. I dunno, that screams “Discord is screwing with you for lulz” to me.
You’re kind of boned no matter what, but if you let him out, he’s less likely to hurt you or do something egregiously obnoxious to you. So I say let him out.
