It’s been said that Sunbow has been emerged with Sony Wonder, and Wonder has been merged with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. :P Soooo Sony has the villains and MLP G1 rights? Ehhhhh…. shrugs

Hasbro doesn’t seem to be able to release the cartoons by themselves on DVD because some other company owns the right to do that (Rhino DVD or something)
and Sunbow’s trademarks were purchased by a company (Probably Rhino)

I think Hasbro /might/ have gotten the cartoon rights back, but they didn’t during the initial development of FiM otherwise Lauren Faust’s original design of G1 ponies being the mane 6 would have been used.
I think the deal is that Hasbro could, say, release the original TV specials, movie, and show on DVD if they wanted to, but they can’t use characters like Tirek in brand-new stuff, because apparently the rights to Tirek and other characters were kept by the animation company that worked on the show, Sunbow, and they… kind of don’t exist anymore.
Actually, I’m pretty sure Hasbro has the rights to the actual cartoon (meaning it could be released on DVD, probably by Shout Factory), just not some of the characters.

Last time I checked, Disney owns the G1 MLP cartoon license so the chances of Hasbro actually having rights to the characters that only appeared in the cartoons are really low.

I prefer we give him a fan name. I’m thinking of Merasumus (Yes, TF2; and yes, I do think it’s a cool fan name) or Tyrannos. But what floats on anyone’s boat. :P

i just looked at the clip and immediately followed up by watching a clip from rescue at midnight castle, and i gotta say… if that’s not victor caroli himself, then it’s a hauntingly close imitation. so far my money’s on tirek, but who knows, maybe it’s his evil-er twin.

I’m surprised there was nothing influenced of Ahuizotl in the OC. Because, you know, him being a real threat and all. Mind you, REAL; not BIG. :P
