>Perhaps these are the princess forms of the mane6 and they change, despite Twilight keeping her name.
were it not for the fact that there’s no similiarity between the cutie marks of Fluttershy and this princess (and pinkie pie and the other Princess), i would half expect 5 new princesses from the past would reemerge to tutor the mane six in their respective parts of friendship

Of course, that just raises more questions. What is that mirror gallery dimension anyway? Were Celestia and Luna born as alicorns, or were they “created” in the same way as Twilight and Cadance? If the alicorn transformation happens automatically, then what is the a common “trigger” for it?
Naturally, these things and more are completely unknowable at present. We only have theories, because actual information is almost non-existent. T_T
Personally, I’m waiting on the edge of my seat for the Journal of the Royal Sisters book to come out. A peek into the personal lives of the two greatest mysteries in all of Equestria… just think of the questions that could be answered! ^_ ^
@LanceOmikron
I don’t know I see it more as Celestia guiding them so they would not be afraid/confused about what is happening, most likely going through the same thing herself once. I mean how would YOU feel if you were suddenly transported to some cosmic plane all alone and suddenly gained new appendages and powers.
@Itsthinking
Indeed. While possibility #1 is the default, there are countless proven cases of possibility #3 nowadays (with Chrysalis being perhaps the most significant example). Which is cool. ^_ ^

I dunno, I’m not entirely sure about that. Cadance underwent the exact same process, Celestia and all (sans the elements of harmony). I have no doubt that had Celestia not done anything, Cadance would still be a pegasus and Twi still a unicorn.
However, I could buy that the energy itself was drawn from within Cadance and Twilight and that Celestia just shaped it. (though one wonders if Celestia could make an alicorn by using a chunk of her own power…)

Who knows, maybe. Though I suppose there are multiple ways that the toys and show could interact from a marketing standpoint:
“We’re making a toy! We’ll put it in the show to advertise it!”
“We made a toy that’s not in the show! And it’s popular! People will like it if we put this popular toy in the show!
“This character/place/thing from the show is popular! Let’s make a toy out of her/him/it!”
I was originally going to say that these various possibilities are chicken-and-egg-esque. But that’s not very accurate, since I’m fairly sure that all of these possibilities have come to pass at one time or another. I suppose it just depends on the situation.
@Background Pony #65E9
That or writers could put them as Celestia’s and Luna’s predeceases ( if these don’t turn out to be toy only Alicorns that is ).
@Background Pony #D012
Only time the toy thing becomes a problem, is when a character out of a toy comes out of no where and simply can not be included in the current story without brute forcing it in.
The good news is that the finale said there were only 4 alicorns currently in all of Equestria, so putting another one would contradict this claim. The only option would be to put the next alicorn as a “secret” alicorn that was hidden from the world all this time.
The 4th season is over, so why not start the fear mongering and rumor mill to pass the time? All bets are on, at this point.
@Background Pony #1723
That is indeed how they work, except for the fact that EqG was like, “Hey, here’s this incredibly vague concept that needs fleshing out in every possible way, have at it.” I’m pretty sure they just said “put the ponies in high school somehow” and left it at that.
@And Brother I Hurt People
What’s so bad about ‘toy-only’ characters? That’s been the entire franchise since the very beginning. The first 6 ponies in 1982 didn’t appear in any animation aside from the first commercial.
@And Brother I Hurt People
From the way the current series is being run, Hasbro has shifted from “Here are toys, make a cartoon” to “Hey, what are the plans for the show?” and then make toys based around that. At least that seems to be the current mantra for FiM. EqG…I think is running on every cliche possible at this point.
@And Brother I Hurt People
From what I’ve seen of their new marketing strategy, everything revolves around the show and Internet. The toys are an afterthought to those two. Especially considering that the show is cheaper to make and that they rely on the show for things that they can market.
And then you’ve got weird stuff like this and Skyla that are just made out of nowhere.
