Is “drama in the comments” sufficient? I had thought the “drama” tag was reserved for images that were intended to rustle jimmies, rather than for stuff like a comic preview.

I suspect it’s the other way around: GMB knew about Maud and inserted the reference to her in the book as a teaser with Meghan/Hasbro’s blessing, or was possibly even asked to do it, since the reference was a single offhand comment by Pinkie which would be easy to insert in a late draft.

I think comic Luna is hilarious. Sure, she’s a bit different from the show, but the show version of both Celestia and Luna are both a bit bland, honestly, and I say this as a big fan of both.
 
I’d actually love it if we saw Luna still being a bit awkward on the show. I suspect we haven’t seen more of that because it doesn’t necessarily contribute to the episodes she’s been in, in part due to time constraints.
 
What I’d really like is some sort of central lore-checking for TV scripts, comics, and books, like some central person in charge of the MLP universe. (Kind of like how Chris Metzen is with WoW.) Like, it’d be nice to see stuff on the show referencing the comics and books.

Well there was some passage of time between Twilight lecturing her and her micro-issue. She also showed up in Big Mac’s arc and further showed signs of coming out of her shell.
 
To be honest I’m not sure what I’m arguing for at at this point. MadBrony and Starlight Storm complained about Luna yelling at her sister and bossing around Kibitz. I gave my justification for why I don’t think that’s OOC for her show personality (which is > < close to being a blank slate).
 
I just feel the comics have given Luna an interesting personality that doesn’t conflict with the minuscule amount of development she’s been given in the show. As she’s starting to open up more she has less and less need for the “proper mask of royalty” she used to hide behind.

The comic has defined and explained the flaws quite well, what with Celestia being young and impetuous at the time and Luna still undergoing culture shock. It’s in the process of exploring them right now as well. Just because you have decided not to see these things does not mean they are not there.

This is completely at odds with the Celestia that shoved Twilight into Ponyville and simply said ‘make some friends’. You could say that she was less world wise in her younger days sure, but then why did she go back in the here and now?

One could easily see them becoming princesses in the decades after Equestria’s founding. Starswirl could have been 40-50ish then (easily old enough to have a student) and 60-70ish in the past being depicted.
 
Personally I’ve always seen the story of Nightmare Moon making far more sense if you consider Luna to have been a late-teen/young adult at the time, as the “caught in my sister’s shadow” thing really seems like something that would bother someone who was just starting out moreso than someone who had been around for centuries.

i know. what she did, it was wrong, but it is from an age long past now and during a time of great pain. it made clear that is what was going on. the only ponies left she was close to was on that other side. it was a choice between an uncertain magical effect and loneliness.

The problem is… I don’t hate the comics. In fact I like some of them. But it’s the fact the comic have shown actually good quality material that makes me more nitpicky and angry at the lazy writing of Katie Cook, specially when she and Andy did the creative and hilarious Zen and the Art of Gazebo Repair

Celestia was shown as being impetuous and over-emotional back when she was young, newly in love, and going through the most traumatic point in her life.
 
Luna is shown as being somewhat oblivious of modern social changes, which does not mean she is not trying to adapt. It means that she has not already adapted. Also, she’s never shown as being condescending or mean spirited toward others, merely oblivious of modern social norms.
 
Seriously, you guys are essentially complaining that they’re not boring enough.

Wait StarSwirl was still around after Luna’s banishment? After Discord and that would mean Sombra and the Crystal Empire, even though StarSwirl said they havn’t met Sombra yet… where the hell does Clover the Clever and the unification of Equestria come in if all this shit has happened and Celestia and Luna are already princesses… ya know what fuck it.
 
Time is more convoluted in Equestria then it is in Lordran/Drangleic.

I don’t see any problem with both, and I can justify it in this way:
 
In public, when dealing with “the commoners” she’s used to putting on the stern mask of royalty almost like a safety blanket. Maybe she’s actually uncomfortable dealing with her subjects as she’s a thousand years out of practice? It certainly seems that way in Luna Eclipsed.
 
In private, with her sister and personal servants (which are essentially family), she opens up more, and doesn’t need the mask to hide behind.

As I’ve said before, I’m pretty sure that absolutely none of this is meant seriously. It’s clear that Luna is still a bit old-fashioned and clueless. I think comics tries to be a bit more playful that way. It’s not a malicious thing.
