He’s still around. For a long time, he was fanatically reblogging SJW THINGS on his mod blog (the admins deleted the comments related to that, since there was somewhat of a shitstorm that was not related to Three Apples). He’s kind of cooled it a bit with that, though. His mod blog is still active, though, so he’s still around.
Just be wary that his return to Three Apples (should he make one) might involve some of this stuff. He already seemed to feel that it was his duty to take it from his mod blog to the Three Apples one, so
@Jarkes
We do have access to the database… We only fully invisible comments whenever it’s going to be a mass wall of "Comment deleted by moderator” posts, in which case we generally post about the deletions, or at the request of the poster in case of doubleposts (or some more onerous circumstances we’ve not had to deal with).
@Background Human Technically that’s a bug. The merge system copies over comments and doesn’t see deleted comments, so doesn’t copy them over. Given a lot of duplicate images tend to have “This is a dupe!” or “There’s an update at >>blah” or “artist missed her left butt”, we decided to never fix it and call it a feature ¬_¬
@Background Pony #DBD8
Yeah, it happened to me once. A comment on a piece that got merged with a dupe or an edit or something. The comment was meaningless to the merged version, so it got disappeared. No “this comment was deleted,” no nothing. Freaked me the hell out.
I apologize for my part in that fiasco. Though since it’s all gone now, I should probably remove the “drama in the comments” tag…
…How’d you manage to completely get rid of the comments, not even with the spaces still being there but with the “This comment was deleted by a moderator” thing?
For the people responsible for the 60 odd garbage comments made in the last few days, don’t ever do that again.
Comments on images should be related to the image; not going on an unrelated aside about the artist, not about politics or ethics or movements or whatever completely unrelated to the image. There are enough topics in the forum dedicated to that sort of thing, keep image comments for things relating to the image.
Herding, apparently (hey, who does the town call in when they need one?)
And about the apples, excuse me but don’t you run the crops team during Ponyville’s Winter Wrap Up? (She has a fancier vest, if you look.) Doesn’t that make you kind of chief Earth Pony for the important Earth Pony duty on the big Earth Pony Day around here?
Finally, of course there’s a pony to whom you’re really, particularly special. She’s just possessed be a green amulet at the moment.
