Here’s the thing though, most fix fics are made out of hatred for how things turned out and perceived slights against one’s favorite character. I don’t want to write one out of hatred. I wanna write one out of love to the original concept.
 
Because I didn’t want to hate Reflections, trust me on this, I really, really didn’t want to. It had some stuff that I wanted to see for years, there is a great story wanting to happen here, and I want to help it become fully realized. If I ever get around to actually writing it, I’ll make sure to first start off by writing a few Celestia stories of different tone so that I can gather up some experience first, because this is something that I really wanna see done right.

Like I said: at least you don’t call people who liked the arc idiots, unlike some people I could mention who do that for not just that arc, but any controversial moment that they don’t like… One person of which has already commented on this very image…
 
Also, my advice: Don’t try to write a “fix fic” for it. 9 times out of 10, those actually end up derailing characters WORSE than the episodes/issues they’re supposedly “fixing.” See: 95% of the Canterlot Wedding “fix fics.” I have seen exactly TWO of those stories that don’t demonize the Mane 5, Shining Armor, or Celestia and put too much emphasis on “punishing” them for their “crimes.”

And I always find it hilarious that every time Celestia is snubbed or worfed or shoved out of the picture in a blink you you’ll miss it scene or her character is just butchered by lazy and half hearted writing we’re told “now they can’t ingratiate the whole fandom” but if it’s discord or dr whooves or derpy they’d burn the fandom down and demand it…

I guess it’s pointless to bitch, 90% of the fandom likes it, they’re gonna swoon over the crappy writing and cliched storyline and continue to pour on the Celestia hate and anyone who doesn’t is just a butthurt sunfag… But I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s exactly why they wrote this arc.

My biggest problem with the whole thing is not only that she doesn’t grow from the experience, but that she doesn’t do crap about it.
 
Yeah, she returns all beat up, but why didn’t she head back with the Mane Six once her injuries healed up? Yeah, the Universes are merging, but she didn’t know that yet. She doesn’t even appear conflicted that she can’t do anything. I dunno, having her WANTING to go in and help them, but being stopped by Luna because her injuries are too severe/the risk of the universes merging is too big would have helped. Instead, it makes her look like an irresponsible dumbass, who delegates all her responsibility to the Mane Six. Yeah, she does that in the show too, but the difference is, the show has a reason for why she’s passing the responsibility on to them: They’re more qualified and she’s more likely to fuck things up.
 
And while we’re at it, good god was the whole “Universes merging” deal really contrived and stupid. I dunno, It’s obviously designed to stop the Mane Six from just killing Evilestia and stopping Celestia from actually taking responsibility for her actions. A way simpler plot point is that all the time she spent with King Sombra made him soften up and hesitate when Evilestia came for him, leading to him being beaten.
 
Then Celestia comes through the portal, sees what happened, tries to make things right, but is then beaten herself when Evilestia sends a brainwashed Sombra to fight her. Then the Mane Six go through the portal to rescue her, and the story develops from there.
 
Fuck, what I really want to do is to write a story about how Reflections should have been.

She actually did have the perfect opportunity to make it up to him, but she was feeling too guilty that she was potentially risking killing everyone behind his back on the hopes that the paradoxes just happened to not come back to really do it.
 
Come out sympathetic here, Celestia did not. The moment you bring “Can kill everyone” and then the world starts exploding, you kind of lose your brownie points. Like, I’m sure this was bad for her, but it wasn’t her life she was risking, was it? It was everyone elses. If everyone else in the kingdom called her out on that, well, she’s kind of out of options, isn’t she? They said “We don’t trust you won’t almost kill us for ‘a guy’”, she says “Well, now you have perfectly valid data supporting this.”
 
Man, Katie really needed to think this through better. At least having her be the one to fix it, you know? As it stands, she didn’t even manage that, she fucked up for 100 percent selfish reasons, wrecked her closest friendship, almost destroyed two worlds and then whoop, someone else had to fix it.
 
Her asking everyone to keep quiet is less OOC, I guess. Sure, they’re scared of Luna right now, but at least they don’t have evidence she’s keeping a shard of something that almost wiped them out in her room.

It’s not a question of “ingratiating the fandom”, the story is riddled with basic storytelling flaws, and in my personal opinion, did far, far, FAR more damage to Celestia’s character than every single hatefic combined.

In terms of the number of drama and shitstorms in comments on derpibooru I congratulate the creators of Reflections for creating the most controversial story arc in MLP XD. People are forgetting that this was only a 4 chapter arc, so they could fit only as much on limited panel number, also the creators don’t have to ingratiate the brony fandom.
 
And yes I like the Reflections story. It give more insight on Celestia, confirmed that she sees Twilight as her successor and for me it was really funny to see Celestia prancing like a love struck teenager :)

I already said my piece about that, I don’t need nor want to discuss it any further. Bottom line, I feel that Reflections failed in it’s goal, it painted Celestia in a worse light, and left me wanting for an actual Celestia story.

Inb4 any drama, I can say that actually I can kinda understand Celestia. She was looking for some escapism after she was forced to banish her sister to the moon for the sake of her subjects, never had the opportunity to make it up with her closest friend and advisor, yet she had to lead alone a rising nation as everyone she knew was passing away before her. Most persons would have snapped.

The writers of fanfictions love to portray her as a selfish weak stupid oaf and they love to humiliate her or kill her in the worst possible ways… And the writers of the show and the comics seem all too happy to cater to them. Celestia fans like me on the other hand don’t really seem to matter to them.

Or maybe it’s just my ever-growing disappointment with both the shows and the comics regarding her treatment as a character.
