I explained it once someplace else: Araki makes men look like women, and women look like men. Meanwhile, Amano makes men look like women, and women look like statutory participants. Despite being radically different from traditional anime, Amano has one thing in common with Japanese animation. Araki goes beyond the call of duty by having a weird mix of metrosexual and heterosexual for both genders.
We know from public speakers in junior high that Gaydar doesn’t exist, but when the uninitiated looks at a picture of Jolyne, there’s no telling what sexual orientation that person will guess. That’s how I see Araki, at least.
