I was honestly expecting them at this moment, even adorable artwork (Let’s face it, anything can be cute if effort’s put into it :3) of these hippocampi/kelpies/sirens.
I kind of find it funny how everyone just stops making anymore fanart and “fanart” (you know what I mean…) of these three as soon as their true forms revealed.
Anyways. How long before we get art of these scaly monstrosities?

the gems are clearly something seperate from them. they are not naturally part of theri bodies and became detached when reduced to their human shape after being cast into the human world.
put simply if they were some species then the gems would not be necessary. discord and the windigos have dark powers yet it is not centered in some object. even sombra did not have some core to his dark powers.

they have the powers of both a kelpie and a windago. besides the mermares are also based on hippocampus.
…….. i am promoting the theory that this is not Execatly their true forms. trule of dark magic in mlp is that it corrupts your form. the gems absorb negative magic and they use their voices to influence negative eneryg. at some point the gems fused to theri bodies, like we see there, and their became these creatures.
personally thinking they are kelpies and the gems are somehow connected to windigos. thus why they seem a merger of windigo and kelpie.
