I think they didn’t want to have to many third-party characters. Plus if they have 2 Sonic characters playable, then it’d seem unfair having only one Megaman, and one Pac Man, and such.  
The third party characters are “guest” fighters, and SSB is more about Nintendo, and their characters, so it’s understandable why they’d keep the third-party ones to a minimum.
 
Sense the WiiU game has an “adventure mode” apparently, I hope they have Eggman in his Egg Mobile as a boss, or something for Sonic’s stage.
 
I like how the “Egg Robos” from S&K are in the game though as Smash Run enemies. I always liked ‘em better then the “Egg Pawns.”

I actually like “Smash Run,” though admittedly would’ve been nicer if they gave more customization for it.

I have yet to unlock her, and try not to spoil hidden characters please. I didn’t know she was in the game.  
I’ve been trying to avoid spoilers, but people keep blurting out hidden character spoilers online, which is kinda annoying.

Actually, I think the Zero Suit/Samus and Shiek/Zelda splits were done because people were annoyed at changing character partway through a match (or something like that). The Ice Climbers thing was because of tech limits, though (not that I mind. I didn’t much care for them).

Actually, Smash Run is my favourite mode. I once took out two Mimicuties in a row by leading them into the “secret” treasure room (now if it appeared in different places, then it would be more of a secret room) so I wouldn’t get launched.

I wondered the same thing. My current theory is because of the demo, but I’m not sure on that point.

And furthermore, I’m not even sure just HOW I unlocked Jigglypuff, because you’re supposed to either do 120 Smash matches or beat Classic many many times (I think 25) to unlock her, and I unlocked her long before I had done either of those.

Also, was anyone else disappointed with how Smash Run turned out to be kind of lame? Seriously, you can’t change the time or difficulty settings, enemies come at you in droves and combo you into oblivion, they seem to have deliberately used all of the worst enemies from the different sources (invincible one-hit kill Ornes, various demonic spiders from Brawl’s adventure mode and various other games like the dreaded Mimicutie, and Pokemon like Gastly seem to only be vulnerable to projectiles), and the CPUs always get way more stat boosts than any human can get within that limited time.
 
And speaking of cheap CPUs, remember how in the Cruel Melee/Brawl you could trick the opponents into jumping off the stage by floating with Kirby? THAT DOESN’T WORK ANYMORE. They may have lowered the thresholds for unlocking stuff from that mode, but the fact that one of the only strategies that ever worked no longer works makes it even more impossible.
 
…Despite this, I do really love the game, though when I get a Wii U soon, the Wii U version will probably be the first game I get for it.

Why couldn’t they have had Eggman be in the game for real, dammit? Oh right, “3DS technical limitations” (that’s their excuse for not having Ice Climbers and making Zelda and Shiek separate characters as well as making Samus and Zero Suit Samus separate characters) and “both versions must have the same rosters” (…Why, exactly? The Wii U version has completely different stages, why can’t it have some exclusive fighters since it can handle more?).

I see I’m not the only one to make an Applejack Mii Brawler.

Haha nice! I want that Mii now. (And I want to unlock the Duck Hunt dog…)
 
Sense I made a Dr. Eggman Mii a long time ago, I couldn’t resist making an Eggman Mii fighter, (Shooter type with the robotic armor) and had him beat up Sonic a bit.
