Gentlemen, I believe in these three posts we’ve pretty much summed up the entire discussion about this image i.e. its good points, weak points and why a number of us are so suspicious.
@Tumblr Feminism Is A joke
“Positive Ponies” were a direct reaction against “‘Feminist’ Ponies”, and mostly coming from “brony artists” while the latter mostly came from people that barely or had never drawn ponies before and just wanted to hop on a new bandwaggon.
“‘Feminist’ Ponies” were generally outright accusatory or simply espoused hate, while ‘Positive Ponies’ tended to be ponified versions of the “Hang in there!” cat or just general tips on leading a better life.
This image is a bit of an iffy one, given just using a scared/sad looking Fluttershy it’s already guilting the viewer and using her as a victim, rather than an example (which would be Pinkie, IMO). But I think that’s the 20th time that’s been said here, at least twice by me.
These are several months and caused a lot of hurt feelings, so there isn’t much point posting anymore, but if you insist, I’ll try to do this in non flamebait mode.
These would have got a better response were it not for the amount of obnoxious messages and hypocritical users (ranting at bronies for being bullies while supporting a certain bitch who appealed to people’s inner sociopath and did worse things than the entire brony community put together, and naturally no one ever thought she needed a trigger warning even when she publicly declared.. well you probably read my comment last time.).
Not to mention trigger warnings and such have been used so badly so often that it’s soured people to the idea of them, and of course if people like this act in a trggering fashion they’ll just tell you to deal with it.
Though in hindsight some of them weren’t so bad, especially the Postive Ponies, but the abuse of mouthpieces has soured the medium and made people suspicious of the writer’s intentions. Preaching from a distance is also a bad way of engaging with people overall.
Before anyone jumps down your throat, I’d like to point out that most people in this thread did agree it was a good message.
But the problem (at least for me personally) is the fact this artist pretty much draws ponies and slaps on a saying or something you’d find off of Tumblr. If you’ve seen their other works, it’s stuff like drawing the princesses with the message ‘Women can lead’ like it’s some sort of revelation. That, and like you said the choice of pony.
Is no-one going to actually talk about the message? And how badly needed it is? Because making fun of phobias was a big thing in my highschool days. I had a couple of my “friends” throw spiders at me thinking it’d be a laugh. It wasn’t. Phobias seem to so rarely be taken seriously when they can potentially be very dangerous. The lngths some people will go to, to get away from something, can hurt themselves and others around them.
Despite the character choice being an obvious one rather than a clever one, this deserves an upvote for an important message.
@WM-R The apartment is on fire. on the left, Jeff is trying to put the fire out with his shirt, but only making it worse. On the right, Annie is applying first aid to Pierce, who was shot in the leg. As a consequence, Pierce will die from his wound, Jeff will lose his arm in the fire, Troy will destroy his larynx by trying to eat a troll doll, Shirly will become an alcoholic, Annie will suffer a breakdown and be institutionalized, and Brita will dye a blue streak into her hair.
