Romance was excluded from Friendship is Magic to reinforce the “not your typical little girls show” thing. Do we really have to invent an explanation?

Well, it does sort of make sense. She’s only shown to have any romantic attraction in the Equestria Girls movies, and when she does it all comes completely out of character and makes no sense, romance and/or relationships aren’t really in line with her character, so her being completely uninterested in them makes a lot more sense than having them.  
Although I will admit that out of the mane 6 she and Rarity are the only two I can think of who’ve actually had any canon shipping, but while Rarity’s own attempt was a disaster it was still in character.
