And Avatar. And Birdemic. And Captain Planet. And Once Upon A Forest. And The Lorax. And Princess Mononoke. And Forest Warrior. And Doctor Dolittle. And…
@Starswirl
Sure, but you have to admit that for every legitimate point that’s made there’s a full page of comments calling for someone to lose their job over a single panel that said commenteers didn’t particularly care for.
Maybe it’d be best if both sides weren’t acting this defensive, we’re all here on the same side after all, we don’t have to divide ourselves and make tents for war for and against the comic books.. That’d be a far sillier than this story.
@Wishy Washy
Critique and constructive criticism are perfectly fine, an are in fact entirely necessary for any creative work, and they should never, ever be discouraged. Nobody is saying that no negative comments or opinions should be allowed.
But there’s absolutely no reason for people to be such unrelenting dickheads about it. Look at the comments section for literally any picture from the comments and you’ll see a tidal wave of hate-filled comments like “utter garbage fucking trash shitty ooc mary sue bullshit everybody deserves to be fired downward spiral argle margle bargle.” That’s not constructive criticism, that’s just whining. Actual civilized discussion about the merits or flaws of comic series is impossible thanks to the legions of insufferable cartwheeling douchegoblins.
@Starswirl
that does seem to be a strange side-effect of Andy Price’s art style. in this panel it makes sense at least, since the big picture of why this is all happening is coming into focus for them at that moment.
Also, more ponies standing slack-jawed. Am I the only one who thinks the comics make them look like idiots? I don’t mean idiot-balling, I mean it makes them literally look like idiots.
@Wishy Washy
A tiny portion. But yes, they did clear away a little bit to build. On the other hoof, let’s not forget that the (Earth) Ponies are already so in tune with nature that they would have no trouble simply regrowing what they use. It’s more a matter of most of that forest being outright deadly.
@MLP-Silver-Quill
I see your point. there’s a couple of other examples too, like when the Flim Flam Bros. turn the Super Easy Cider Squeezy 6000 onto overdrive and started getting whole trees in the juicer instead of just the apples it was intended for.
On the flip side of things, we also have instances like Bloomberg. I’unno. I just thought it to be an important thing to bring up. I don’t think it screws with my headcanon as much as say… Nightmare Rarity does.
I’d also like to make a comment here in response to people saying there’s an overwhelming amount of negativity here.
Cynicism and critique is a good thing. no single piece of creative media is a perfect product, and hearing what people have to say, positive or otherwise, is an important part of growing… granted, much of these words will not reach Katie Cook/Andy Price, but we ourselves can improve our own critical thinking or improve our own work if we hear people out.
I do want to say right now that Andy Price’s lines are beautiful as ever, especially in the full page spread that reveals Lothlorean. Although these particular panels don’t sport it, there is still a fun variety of gags from the Twilight Sparkle Shepard gag, to Well-to-do’s assistant looking like Rocky from the old Looney Tunes cartoons.
@Wishy Washy
I wonder if the ponies are in tune with nature, or think they’re the management. They can literally craft the weather to suite their needs.
Everfree is something different. The ponies aren’t the bosses in there, yet it’s understandable that they would act without thinking about the change. The scene where Twilight uproots a tree is a great example. She likely didn’t consider the implications because she’s not used to the idea.
And yes, the ponies would be mindful of destroying their own resources, yet is it possible they think less of clearing Everfree out? After all, Ponyville itself began by cutting away a portion of the Forest.
Is it just me, or is everyone hating on a good comic?
Not everyone. A comparatively tiny group of people who are so obnoxious about they overly hyperbolic hatred of literally everything the comic does that nobody else bothers trying to voice a positive opinion for fear of being attacked by the assholes who treat their own opinions as if they were holy scripture.
@Joshua
Except that just about anything is better than the AJ arc.
This is marginally better, but still falls flat due to the hamfisted preachy environmentalism message, and the deer being obvious jackass elves that are holier than thou.
