G3.5 was pretty good visually, I find.  
Newborn Cuties was “woo look mom I’m using Flash”, although it did have some good visuals, namely the moment when Sweetie Belle is born.

G3 didn’t have this phenomenon, probably because G3 wasn’t an episodic series per say, but a string of small movies. Its presentation only improved as the time went on.

You know, that’s pretty much the case with MLP too, isn’t it?  
Even though I have a fondness for the movie + tv series pony herd,  
Rescue at Midnight Castle and Escape From Catrina specials were both consistently good quality and interesting art design.

No actually, the specials were the very first Care Bears episodes that were broadcast. If they hadn’t gotten good ratings, the 80s series probably never would’ve been made at all.
 
But then they got edited down before being put into re-runs with the series’ episodes, but then were (apparently) completely lost for about 20 years due to some mistake at the company archives, before being found again and released on DVD.

Oh yeah, it took me a while to track down the lost pilot specials of the Care Bears. Actually, they’re of considerably higher quality than the series-proper which followed a year later, and are more like miniature-movies in terms of animation quality and such-like.

I just wish I knew what I’d done with my “Meet the Ponies” mini-DVD. It’s somewhere in the house, but that’s still quite a large amount of stuff to search through…

Yeah I agree Dead0k, I too hate it when serial releases don’t have matching styles and arrangements. xD At least the G1s match, and the G3s match too (apart from A Very Minty Christmas, which came out much earlier than the others).
