Anyone that doesn’t like it is free to express their opinion as long as it’s not rude or disrespectful to anyone else who does like it or doesn’t care about it. No one wants to be told they’re wrong for liking something, nor does anyone want to be told they’re wrong for disliking something, but if you really just want to complain, take it elsewhere, or filter the IDW tag, or even just ignore the image. Not liking something is no excuse to be rude to others.

Ponies eat apples every day. Apples are literally part of their normal, daily diet.
 
They had absolutely no reason to turn into bats to eat them, the invasion could have been stopped before lunch.
 
The apples also admited being vulnerable against fire. Why is Spike not roasting apples after melting his ridiculous tiny cage is yet another reason why this entire 2 parter makes no sense, even if you disconnect your brain and try to enjoy it under the “so bad that it’s actually good” special googles category.
 
With a little more care and planning this arc could have been genuinely fun, especially if all of those B movie cliches had been lampshaded and used to keep things running smoothly.

There is no comedic effect. The apples are treated as a legit threat with no overdramatic reactions or self depreciation. IDW seems to have missed why people actually like B movies in the first place.

Since this is a parody of a horror story, the threat is something normally un-threatening, but cranked up to 11. But if you want a real explanation, then they are either un-crushable due to being infused with Nightmare Moon’s magic and/or they move around too fast to hit.

The key differences between the Killer Apples and Killer Tomatoes are:
 
The is literally no reason for the Tomatoes exist or appear suddenly and it is never explained or justified at all. This comic on the other hand shows what made the Apples appear and gain sentience.
 
Killer Tomatoes is set in IRL, this is set in a funny fantasy cartoon universe with magic.
 
The Tomatoes’ only weakness is a song, here it looks like vampires are the only thing that can stop them. So they are similar in that they have a single weakness, but vampires are cooler than “Puberty Love”.
