Probably wouldnt be that much variation depending on the motives…and the more I think about it, if I had to choose someone to “protect” the CMC…it would most likely be like a holy paladin like Uther or something…just someone that can sorta contain the chaos, even if just by a little bit.

Yeah, fantastic settings stretch me a bit, but I can deal. Narnia, LoTR, Harry Potter… Except my mind does start wandering in a sort of “Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality” sort of direction: how to abuse magic systems for gain and the sort Xp (I REEAAALLY need to get around to actually reading that HP fanfic…).
 
Cartoony things, though? I have a hard time with the line; “It’s just a show, I should really just relax…”, hehe. So I have a hard time getting into cartoony things, myself, though I can appreciate what they are within their domain, and growing up I did have a sonic phase myself. It’s kind of cute in hindsight; my brother 2 years older than me was Sonic and I was Tails - it was actually a rather strong reflection of our personalities IRL, me being the softer engineer/scientist type and he being the more adventurous go get’em Sonic type.

It’d be kinda hard for me to get back into it without trying to force realism in, though. Years of aerospace and physics make it very hard to see past realism gaps for me. It’s kinda like “TVtropes will ruin your life” Xp

I don’t think Sonic was ever meant to be that realistic anyways. Most IRL cliffsides aren’t checkerboard patterned for one thing. Halo is meant to be less cartoony, and more realistic, but it’s still sci-fi, and not the most realistic thing in the world either was all I was saying.
 
And also, I don’t have anything against “powerful” characters either. In fact, I actually liked that new “Superman” movie they did, even if it was a li’l to gritty on some parts.

Plus, O.P. doesn’t make a bad character, either. Superman isn’t infinitely worse than a typical mary sue, despite being way more O.P. It has to do with how their power is handled from a writing perspective, if conflicts aren’t too easy, etc.

John-117 would seem so, but his back story and real purpose for being made makes his origin not seem so. He weighs 350 lbs out-of-armor and literally almost a ton in-armor. When you want to make a figure to fear, you make them OP. What’s better to make rebels shit themselves then a 1 ton super soldier? Only reason why there looked over his heroes is because of the first Spartan on covenant action where Jai-006 engaged in close quarters combat with A Sanghelian Shipmaster and tossed him across a room. The Shipmaster, practically pissed himself, thought the Spartan to be a demon. Gain titles like that from Aliens more advanced than you, and you are expected to be that badass.

True, but based off of what was said about Shadow, he’s still far more believable than that. I give the Halo universe some points for doing a decent job with realism. Note: decent, not perfect by any stretch, and trust me when I say I’m well aware of just about every little mistake they made in terms of realism. But they still did an extremely good job for a video game, and incorporated a lot of good and realistic elements, and above all, have a rather believable “feel” to it. Hehe, I particularly like how the UNSC ships are basically giant weapons with a ship designed around them - much like how the A-10 Warthog was designed. It makes sense from an engineering standpoint, even if things like their antigrav and engine powers are rather incredible and fantastic in the literal sense.

Doesn’t Master Chief turn over entire tanks by himself, and such too though? That’s a bit O.P. if you ask me.
 
Frankly, I never got what the big deal with Master Chief was, he feels like those old generic video game characters you used to see in old arcades, and such whom you either never see outside their vehicle, or outside their mask, and such. Though, I guess like nearly-voiceless/backstory-less characters like Mario & Link, that could be intentional to make him like the player’s “avatar.”
 
As for Shadow, I hate to admit it, but I used to jump on the “Shadow hate” bandwagon amongst Sonic fans, but then when I finally played SA2, I grew to like Shadow more. Plus, I got kinda sick of all the fan-hate over him from older crankier Sonic fans.

I never said that he’s interested. But sometimes he gets overwhelmingly depressed when he remembers his past, and during these emo periods Amy always tries her hardest to cheer him up. And he had a few moments with Blaze where they ended up in the two looking like lovers because of their respect towards each other. I wonder what would happen if Amy asked Shadow on a date during one of Shadow’s emo periods though?

Powerful does not a good character make. In fact, if he really could blow up an entire flippin’ Halo single-handedly, then that’s kind of way beyond my willing suspense of disbelief, especially while being a setting that has some pretense of being sci fi as opposed to straight-up fantasy. I think I like chief a lot more :q

I actually googled Shadow the Hedgehog. After finding a wiki on him, Shadow became one of my top three badasses. Especially because he’s not afraid to kill, is willing to use weapons ‘n’ vehicles, and could probably get in a relationship with Amy Rose if he asked. I also think that Shadow deserves another game focused on him.

I heard about this when it was relevant, but I can’t remember any information about it in the games. Did JP version of Sonic X explain it?  
It’s not like I’m in disbelief, but I now realize that I’ve never seen the primary source of this bit of lore. It’s something I’ve learned from other fans.

Actually, those rings are his power inhibitors. when he removes them, his powers are greatly increased but it drains his energy dry.

Shadow’s an artificially made being that’s half hedgehog half Black Arms. He has his own “Power of Chaos” that allows him to use Chaos control without a Chaos emerald. He also has several of his own Chaos abilities like Chaos spear and his signature move Chaos Blast. The Master Chief used a fusion nuclear reactor to blow up instillation 04. Shadow could blow up that same ring single handedly. Literally, Chaos Blast is is where Shadow builds up and releases a large amount of energy that destroys everything in it’s path. Basically, he can create his own explosions. He’s also the only character in Sonic the Hedgehog who isn’t gun-shy.
