Well Cadence is Jon Snow of MLP she goes on an adventure to face big Monsters and fight with deadly warro Warriors in the snow point of the Crystal Empire she’s a badass Princess and very Underrated
@CardStock
Looks more like a “I’m impressed. There are so many things wrong with that post, I don’t know where to begin” judging from the face palm gif. We’ll probably see an explanation from him soon enough.
@lunafan22
Alright. Name the last time she got any real development. Name one real character flaw. Name one insecurity of hers she has to overcome. Name the last time she’s had to deal with an issue that wasn’t related to dealing with some outside force such as Changelings, Discord, Tirek, Sombra, the Equestria Games Inspector or a bunch of rowdy convention goers (from Princess Spike). How much more indepth has she gotten? What added new things to her have we seen since her introduction? Again, apart from saying that life in the Crystal Empire has gotten dull without the odd dangerous creature what ever, I can’t name a one.
Because let’s review what a Mary Sue is. The Mary Sue character is almost always beautiful, smart, etc… In short, she is the “perfect” girl. So far Cadence has been shown to be pretty much perfect. The only times she’s at a disadvantage is if it’s a powerful enemy. It’s never her own fears or insecurities. The “Mary Sue” is judged as a poorly developed character, too perfect and lacking in realism to be interesting. Again, what REAL development has she gotten? WHat makes her seem like a real character? It’s not like she hasn’t had the chance either. Anytime she’s in an episode she’s almost always doing something to help further the plot in some way. More so than Celestia or Luna. Celestia has been in more episodes, but more as the Merlin, yet even she was able to get more development this way. Luna had moments like that as well including a couple episodes for her, but most episodes she’s in are cameos and she winds up doing nothing other than be there. Yet even she has more development.
Again, you all say she isn’t a Mary Sue yet as we can see she fits the bill perfectly, save for the self-insert bit which ultimately is unnecessary as a 4/5 is still 80%. But if you think she’s not, by all means prove me wrong. Show me where she’s gotten any real development. Show me a real character flaw. Show me a personal problem she needs to overcome to better herself as a character and grow. Sure, her character is established, as perfect. Generous, caring, kind, loving, etc. Perfect traits yet no negative ones. Is she greedy? No. Is she arrogant? No. Does she have any irrational fears? Evidently not. She’s not even a good character. I can’t even call her a character. She’s a tool, purely exists to further the plot when ever she’s there. We’re not meant to get invested in her. She’s an ideal and that’s not a real character.
@CardStock clears throat Okay, I am lost to what you’re saying. Cadance does in fact have a character. It’s established and explored enough to give her a very good foundation as such and not as a Mary Sue.

Because Twilight at least has a character. Cadence does not. She’s had more spotlight than Luna or Celestia and yet she still has little to no real character at all. What character flaws does she have? What internal problems has she had to overcome? None. The only time she’s ever in an episode is if something external, effecting a lot of ponies is going on. Even in the Canterlot Wedding she was built up as perfect and we haven’t seen any deviation from that. In contrast:
Twilight: Has had to overcome her compulsive need to be on time with her studies, make up for being a shallow friend to Moondancer, learn the magic of friendship since the first episode which she didn’t understand, etc.
Celestia: Typically viewed as a wise and almost infalliable goddess of great respect, yet she expressed great remorse over what she was forced to do to Luna, has a playful and trickster side, and can make mistakes (though she’s never admitted it nor said sorry once).
Luna: Has had to overcome her inner darkness, show to others she has changed so they might forgive her and even went to great lengths to punish herself but in the end learned to forgive herself.
Each already have more depth than Cadence. More personality and seem more like they could actually be real. Cadence is a Mary Sue, she is an ideal. Apart from the Canterlot wedding where she was established to be the perfect pony, what character development have we gotten? Oh, she’s finding life in the Empire dull. Woopty doo. Again, she’s been more in the spotlight than the other princesses (minus Twilight) and yet she has had virtually do development. We don’t know if she has any insecurities, any flaws, any fears, anything. Every problem she’s ever been put in front of has been as follows:
Changeling Queen taking over Canterlot by kidnapping her and brainwashing her fiance, Sombra trying to enslave the Crystal Empire again, trying to convince the Equestria Games inspector to pick the Crystal Empire to be the host of the Games, the fiasco at said Equestria Games where Spike couldn’t breath fire until that ice comet came plummeting in, Discor being sick and taking up her time with Twilight, that Tatzlwurm, Tirek attacking and then that convention what ever where Spike tried to make decisions for Twilight.
Not one personal problem. Not one instance of adding 3 dimensions to her. She’s exactly the same as Twilight made her out to be in that flash back from Canterlot Wedding and hasn’t deviated in the slightest to indicate she’s grown as a person/pony. That’s why she’s a Mary Sue while the other princesses are not.
