@Scrounge
Regardless, efficiency is crap… because with 128kbps Apple AAC it’s not perfect but it’s mainly the upper frequencies (8khz plus) that are a little chopped up… but besides that it sounds very good and by 160 you’re extremely close to full transparency (V0 of LAME)… probably somewhere between V2 and V1 at 160… but that’s very good
So my point is that the Youtube AAC is just crap… I think they updated it and now they use Opus, though.. and a lot of it is how it is encoded before being uploaded
But that “18khz should be 16khz blah blah blah” doesn’t matter too much… the bitrate it’s using on the 16-18khz frequencies should have been at the most half of what it uses on the more important ones
Oh well… The MP3 download is in the description and it’s available in lossless on the balloon party album
Why does YouTube have to use such horrible encoders… You know… If they set the cutoff frequency to 16khz instead of 18khz then it would sound a lot better
Seriously.. Why do encoders try to go higher than 16khz at 192kbps.. Even high quality MP3 encoders shouldn’t do that
MP4 can do it but it’s more efficient
Of course I can only hear up to 16khz… Probably due to listening to music too loud when I was younger
Says the average for my age is 17 so I guess it’s not far off
