Doesn’t surprise me… I saw a guy on DA who hates Sonic’s green eyes so much he says they make Sonic look “freaky, and souless.” He hates them so much he edited the “Sonic Genesis” comic cover so his eye pupils are totally black… That’s how crazy this guy is.
 
This same guy also made a petition to get Ian Flynn fired off of writing the Megaman comic, (he claims it should only be game-adaptions, and not have any original stories, and such in between the game-adaption stories) and his petition so far only has ONE signiture. (Epic fail.)

Ohhh, you have obviously not been in the Sonic fandom, as much as I have. They complain over more changes then the bronies if you ask me. Give Sonic green eyes in Sonic 4, and fans freak. Introduce the Warehog, fans freak. Introduce a new character, and fans freak. Give Princess Sally clothes, and fans freak. Put Sonic in SSB, and fans freak.  
They’re relentless about any change, no matter how minor.

I have to admit that of all the designs, Knuckles is the one that made me go, “Eh?” I always figured him for a rather nimble fighter, while this one looks more like a big bruiser. You’re right about the blue arms on Sonic being rather jarring, though.

I think we can chalk that up to being a lot more experienced with various dramas. Once you start complaining about something as minor as eye colour, you’ve probably seen it all already.
 
On the other hand, I could totally sympathise with the Devil May Cry fans who disliked DmC. I can’t recall many main characters as obnoxious and unlikeable as the new Dante.

They’ve handled it better then Devil May Cry fans when DmC was announced, and certainly handled better than the Twilicorn/Equestria Girls Drama.

While I do find the Knuckles design kinda odd, everyone else is fine. Sonic’s blue arms are a bit jarring, but whatever.

Long story short, Sonic fans are infamously tempermental. Any change at all seems to cause vitriol to rain from the heavens.
 
To put it in perspective, even Transformers fans think Sonic fans are prone to overreaction, and they’re the ones who coined the phrases ‘Trukk not monky’, ‘GEEWUN’ and ‘Ruined FOREVER!’
