Double-percentage in particular is from a derivative of Markdown, Wakabamark. Regular Markdown, like stuff you can find on Reddit, typically doesn’t have a need for spoilers. But the syntax matches up.
And the differences between Markdown and Textile-Derpi-uses are as such: both _ and * are italics, both __ and ** are bold, superscript is done with a single ^ in the beginning, subscript isn’t present, strikethrough is %%, monospace/code is done with a ` instead of @, - is unused, quotes are done with > in the beginning instead of [bq] BBcode, underline isn’t present, literal (ignoring formatting for the symbol) is done with a \ before it.
One peculiarity of Reddit’s Markdown, however, is that it
is retarded removes single end-of-lines, requiring two to change paragraph and two spaces before EOL to actually change line, which severely reduces usability, but thankfully is entirely preventable if Markdown-for-Derpi is feature-controlled by sane people. It also removes multiple spaces and empty lines otherwise, which is just as stupid, but interferes less.
