"Muffins" the pony

Hello mods,  
I’m not sure how many people have brought this up before, but it might be time to consider changing the “Derpy” tag to the name she keeps getting credited as, which is “Muffins”. I know she was initially called Derpy, but that was once and she has been credited as Muffins at least twice now. I also know that Derpygate was a big thing; I’m not sure how big of a deal it is these days, nor do I ignore the unusual nature of changing the name of the pony while the site is still named Derpibooru. I only think it’s the right thing to do considering the show has seemed to establish this pony as Muffins, not Derpy. I know you can change the tag because you did so when Inkie and Blinkie’s real names were revealed.  
That’s all I have to say. I really hope you take my thoughts into account.

Doesn’t really matter what the show established her as, the fandom has established her as “Derpy”. Besides the show had established her as Derpy too, until that SJW mother wrote in about being offended by the word, if we renamed Derpy to “Muffins” then we’d be giving into her wishes, and nobody wants that.

That is, I want them to change the name. I understand some people not liking the name Derpy. I’m one of them. It really seems like her name is Muffins now and so I’d appreciate it if the tag could be changed.

I like how you frame compromise as a bad thing and that you insinuate it is only one person that opposes the name. Bonus points for using the ridiculous term “SJW” You’re clearly not biased at all. This irrationality and clinging to the old and ugly annoys me so much about this fandom.

I mean, I get where you’re coming from, and for near any other character, sure. But Derpy is more a fandom creature than anything else, with her appearances in the show being an explicit nod to that. Plus, her original canon name is Derpy, the censoring and renaming retcon is seen as a bending of the knee to soccer moms and oversensitive tumblr snowflakes, one that neither I nor a vast number of people appreciate or want to see on every image of the character.

Using the term “bending a knee” seems kind of extreme. It’s really not giving in to anything. And yes, I know she’s a massive fandom icon, probably the biggest of them all. But I still would like it if you could give it some serious thought. A lot of changes have had to be made to fit in with show canon, and I know I don’t like a lot of them. But even if not to make some people feel better, at least for the sake of being accurate with show canon.  
I understand if you don’t. You have a lot of people to keep happy. I just figured I’d ask.

you’d get, at most, an alias for “muffins” pointing to “derpy”, but muffins is already aliased to “muffin”, so…

And besides, we already use that one nameless background pony we all know and love for instances of Derpy being called Muffins.
 
And anyway, i’m terminantly opposed to aliasing the name here too.

I’m casting another vote of opposition. Her name is Derpy, the show’s only forced to call her “Muffins” because a bunch of overly-sensitive participation-trophy-havers got triggered and threw a hissy fit and demanded censorship.

The matter of “Derpy” is something that brings a lot of negative memories and emotions, and it’s a point buried in the past. Bringing it up again, particularly in a way that is essentially an erasure of early fandom material, would bring nothing but grief and strife.
 
I’m sorry that some of the responses have been less than polite, but too many have positive emotions and memories related to Derpy and her fanon; an erasure of a great part of what made that character that character, the one that took her from an animation error to a fandom favourite, is not something I am willing to consider.

“Derpy” is more canon than “Muffins” (really, fuck this name, honestly). She was called “Derpy” in “The Last Roundup” and post-censorship does not change that. In fact, censorship never changes anything, it only hides the truth, so Derpy’s name has not been changed, only hidden. “Derpy” is her real name and only “Derpy”.

And I don’t care about your disagreement. Strongly. Supporting “Muffins” as a name means to support censorship, to support people who both hate to see a disabled pony on TV and are so deranged and trapped in their hatred that they were willing to pressure the company responsible until it bowed to their will and to harass the writer of an episode per mail and it means to support intolerance.  
Derpy’s real name is a symbol for tolerance of those who are different, the name “Muffins” is a symbol for the opposite and the latter symbol is, as pretty much everyone told you already, not going to fly on Derpibooru.

I can tell you don’t care because you responded.  
Changing the name is not supporting censorship. It shows respect to people with disabilities. The Last Roundup portrays a character with a disability as a punchline and a detriment to society, someone who messes everything up. That has nothing to do with her name. The fact is that she deserves better. So changing how she’s portrayed from then on and changing her name is showing respect.  
She wasn’t called Muffins in the changed version of that episode, either. She was unnamed and uncredited. It was not harassment, nor hatred. It was genuine disappointment with the portrayal of a disabled character as a punchline, and they were expressing said disappointment.  
Genuine tolerance and respect is seeing a mistake and moving forward, having learned from it and changing your ways to be better, which is what the writers did.  
Anyway. I sincerely hope that you listen to what I have to say, as opposed to just blocking my words out. I used to support the old name before I listened to people who were genuinely upset by the portrayal because it made them feel like jokes and people who caused destruction, or hurt other people. They feel better with the change, and they feel respected. Maybe you can change your mind?
