Well, this season gave Spike a good episode that I already watched, and after that there’s another potentially great Spike episode I yet have to watch, so I suppose I can appreciate that at least.

Maud’s boyfriend wasn’t obnoxious and mean. I just thought he was exactly like Maud.  
Fluttershy wasn’t out of character or regressing in character because she was literally faking it til she makes it.

The majority of S8 episodes have been poorly-received so far.
 
I have been too busy to notice.

Dreading Season 9
I just remembered another common complaint about the current seasons.
 
Ever since Crusaders of the Lost Mark aired, there’ve been many complaints that Diamond Tiara has been completely forgotten about since her redemption. It’s like the showrunners don’t know what to do with her anymore.
 
If the showrunners don’t know what to do with DT, or any of the other characters like her, then why do you want the show to continue?

Because I thought DT was a dull character since her first episode, so her being effectively dropped is a plus in my book. That, and there’s other characters I do like that they are still doing things with. Now answer my question.

If the showrunners don’t know what to do with DT, or any of the other characters like her, then why do you want the show to continue?
 
Because a very minor character not showing up after basically fulfilling their purpose is totally enough to make anyone think the show should stop.
 
I also highly doubt it’s a common complaint.

Actually I think the only “weak” episode we’ve got yet was “The Maud Couple”. And still it was a 2,5/5. Yes, there are some holes in the stories like why Fluttershy is bad in crochet work or why a Pegasus would like to ride a rollercoaster. But that’s just nitpicking. IMO there is much potential for a great season. The only two problems I had so far: the heavy leaks and Hasbros bad habitude for “LOOK AT THIS SCHOOL! IT’S OUR NEW TOY! BUY IT NOW!!! IN YOUR FACE!” :-D

I don’t think this season is terrible but I’ve not been nearly as hyped for it as past seasons.
 
In fact, I was more excited for Forgotten Friendship in February than for the upcoming season of FiM.

If the showrunners don’t know what to do with DT, or any of the other characters like her, then why do you want the show to continue?
 
I have literally never heard this as a complaint about S8 before now. So if never is common, then I suppose you have a point that it’s a common complaint about the current season. (I have heard it as a complaint about S6 and S7.)
 
So, first, who are “the other characters like” DT? Gilda? I’d rather not see any more of her.
 
I would like to see more of DT and SS. I really would. But I’d even more like to see more Cloudchaser, Molly Azure and Flashdancer, Saddle Arabians, Cloudsdale cheerleaders, Starlight’s villagers, Sky Stinger and Vapor Trail, and especially the mane cast. DT has never been a central character to the show, so her presence or absence doesn’t really enter into why I would like to see the show continue. The show would be better with her showing up once in a while still, but it’s hardly deficient without her. Done well, the Pillars may have the potential to add even more to the show than she did. And the friendship school students. The CMCs’ cutie advice business too. Now, if they run out of ideas for the Mane 6, CMCs, and Starlight, then yes, it’s time to end it. A fairly peripheral recurring villain who’s now reformed? We already have a big Starlight, do we need a Mini Me for her too?

Can’t say I regret being hyped for Season 8. Some episodes have been meh, and naturally they’ve all had bits they could’ve done better, but so far I’ve quite liked what we got. “Horse Play” and “Surf and/or Turf” especially were great, and the season so far has been far more enjoyable than not.

Because Diamond Tiara is not and has never been a particularly integral part of the show, and her absence detracts from little.
 
The characters who are central to the show and who are popular among the fanbase are by and large still well-represented and well-written. The Mane Six, the CMC, Spike, the various family members, Discord, the Princesses, Starlight, Ember, Sunburst… if anything, a lot of characters have been getting more attention and development lately than they used to have. Take the three Celestia episodes we got in two seasons, or how much Fluttershy’s grown since Seasons 1 and 2.
