IDW Comics - Story Discussion (Spoilers)

How I’m guessing they’re going to be used is as the PoS’s servants, and that Star Swirl’s confrontation with them was part of a wider battle.

There’s a few things from the comic that I’ll miss which I’ll keep in how I see the Sirens but I don’t mind this comic being reconned. As a matter of fact, Katie Cook’s interpretation of Starswirl has also been retconned.

Yay! That issue was awful. Not as bad as the Fiendship issue with Nightmare Moon, though.

Hey, I really liked that issue. Celestia actually got to kick ass for once, it explained where those moon creatures from the Nightmare Rarity arc came from, plus this.

It was bad and you should feel bad for liking it. We’re supposed to believe all dreams in the world are made in cauldrons by furbies on the moon, that said moon furbies taught Luna her dream magic, that Celestia knew dream magic before Luna* and is more skilled in it? Utter nonsense!
 
The issue has Celestia in a modern Canterlot when it takes place immediately after NMM’s banishment, at which point Celestia would be in the old castle in the Everfree. The depiction of Canterlot was also at odds with the previous Sirens issue which showed the city in the style of ancient Greece.
 
Nightmare Moon attacks Celestia with visions of spiders, baldness, and snooty subjects. Wow. Terrifying.
 
Then there is a panel which strongly suggests Celestia manipulated the minds of her subjects, which makes her look worse than Nightmare Moon tried to depict her in dreams.
 

 
*It wouldn’t be the last time the comics fucked up that detail. Again in FF #38 Celestia had power in the dream realm.

Also, in Fosgitt’s debut issue, Ponyville looked like something between The Simpsons and The Loud House, though given places like Manehattan such towns probably exist, just not Ponyville.

I think you misunderstood quite a few things. One, Celestia didn’t manipulate the minds of her subjects, only reversed the manipulation of Nightmare Moon. Two, Celestia didn’t dream walk, Doran sent Celestia into the dream realm and gave her the ability to use her strength while there. In fact that comic was the first to confirm that magic doesn’t work in dreams (which was later backed up by the Discord/Luna comic).
 
As “Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep?” shows, Luna can do the same thing.

Read it again. Celestia erased her subjects’ dreams and “any untrue notion” of herself. The guard, by the way, could not know that. He’s only saying it for exposition.

No she didn’t. I see why you’d think that because Celestia’s mane was braided like Doran braided NMM’s mane and Celestia implies Doran contacted her but how the hell does that work when Doran is on the moon and Celestia is on the planet? It’s never shown. What is shown is that the moon furbies get NMM into Celestia’s dream, Celestia throws Lucky Charms at NMM, NMM throws bats and Fleecs’ gremlins at her, NMM hurts Celestia with a vision of Luna, then Celestia overcomes it with love or something. It’s not clear.
 
The more I have to think about this comic the worse it becomes, like a fractal of stupidity.

I recall hearing that Nuhfer originally wanted it to tell the full origin of Nightmare Moon and make it clearer what the Nightmare Forces were actually SUPPOSED to be (a manifestation of Luna’s inner darkness instead of some alien parasite that straight up possessed her), but Hasbro nixed that, so she had to come up with something completely different at pretty much the last minute.
 
That would definitely explain a few things.

Doran is a dream walker. Luna uses dream walking all the time to help ponies when she’s not actually physically present. Doran pretty much straight out states she helped Celestia at the end, and Nightmare Moon likewise states that Celestia shouldn’t be able to fight her in dreams and is confused as to how it’s possible.
 
And what you said about Celestia erasing dreams is exactly what I said, just phrased in a more accusatory manner. When you remove brainwashing from someone, it’s not exactly comparable to the original brainwashing.
 
Still this is starting to become less a debate and more of a repeated “This is what I think” vs “This is what I think” based on exactly the same data, so it’s clearly going nowhere. We’ll just have to agree to disagree.

I wish the comic where Pinkie Pie becomes the princess of chaos was a two parter.

In the first legends of magic hinted at that when something happened to luna when she opened the portal that sounded like it would be Nightmare Moon.

I think the last Issue kind of made the Dazzlings since their the reason the Pillers get together and even have the oppertunity to create the elements the indirect instigators of everything after the Windigos and as such some of the most important characters in the canon. Kinda crazy to think about.

So the latest Legends of Magic references the season finale which does not officially air for another week? It’s one leak and scheduling mishap after another.

Actually I’m told the comic improves the episode by providing some extra backstory and motivation to the villain.

You missed the point. They shouldn’t have a comic dealing with an episode that has not aired yet. Some of us are still trying to stick to the official schedule.

This, it was clearly meant to be before the finale, as the little blurbs with Sunburst are clearly before Shadow Play. The finale isn’t spoiled in the slightest by this specific issue. And by the time the rest comes out the finale will have long officially aired.

Did you guys read the new legends of magic?  
I liked that its about the dazlings but it didn’t really give them much of a backstory or anything and that kinda disappointed me but it looks like its gonna have another part or so so maybe they’ll show more later.

Did anyone notice in this LOM issue they never say Stygian’s name and he’s just called The Scholar.
