If you haven't gotten into the show before would you have tried getting into it now

Probably not, to be honest. Both the show and fandom is much different than it was roughly five years ago when I first got into it.

I think there is a good chance I would. Opinions on what the fandom is like now aside, the big draw for me was always that it was just a good show, and that reason more than any other is why I kept watching it when I first decided to give it a try all those years ago. Coming in late does not diminish quality, after all.

That’s not to say the fandom issue is entirely irrelevant, of course. There’s a steeper learning curve these days, I think, on some things, and some of the fun stuff/drama/well known incidents that occurred way back when the show was new would be harder to pick up on second hand. Still, there have been other fandoms I’ve meandered my way into after the thing they’re based on has existed for some time, and in most cases I’ve found that (given enough time) you can learn pretty much anything you really need to know. That’s assuming you don’t pay too much attention to the people who are sure (for approximately the 15th time) that their fandom only has months left in it.

Given that would involve watching the the worst season ever (Season 2), I would’ve written it off as some fluke from a hack creator that left after the first season.

I got hooked watching random clips of season one without thinking there was a fandom in the first place, so I’d probably still get into it.

Considering I actually left the fandom and the show for a brief period but came back to it, I think I most certainly would have at least given it the exact same chance I would have given it when Season 1 was still going. Any series that I’m genuinely intrigued by I give at least 3 episodes to convince me that it’s worth sticking to (that’s how I got caught up with the DC hero shows like Arrow and the Marvel Netflix shows) and the first three MLP episodes are just as fun to watch now as they were back then.

The fandom is a whole other story. It’s not as active or as diverse as when MLP first started, so I think people would just stick to the show and leave the fandom be.
