Josh Haber is back in Season 8

Actually, I preferred the second half since I felt it had a higher overall entertainment value.

Really, my main issue with Haber is that it feels like he is mainly content with doing little more than hit the beats most eps of the show must hit. He can execute the stories themselves rather competently, but he doesn’t bring in much life on his own. Granted, his work in season 6 is a lot better compared to that of season 4 (Simple Ways and Leap of Faith were very lackluster compared to the rest of the season IMHO), so there is definitely some improvement there, but still. I’d imagine Lewis and Songco would stay on there, as I can’t seem them leaving the show and I don’t think they would just be demoted like that.

I don’t think you have enough information to make that judgement. Remember that he was the story editor for the season, he only wrote a few scripts. TV production is highly collaborative, so it’s very difficult to make judgements about individual crew members.

Every single season, starting with S6, every single good writer leaves and is replaced with yet another newbie hack. What makes you think the same won’t happen with S8?

Because everyone else does. If you can’t beat em, join em.

I still like the show. But because everyone else hates it, I feel like the show is objectively becoming worse with each season. The show is basically a guilty pleasure for me for that reason. I know it’s bad, but I still enjoy it because of the humor and character interactions that have been there since the beginning, along with the great worldbuilding.

That said, I wish it would end so that people stop bashing every single new episode.

So, stop give them weapons to people saying the show is plummet now. The season 6 and 7 gave us good episodes. some “Meh”. But a lot of people enjoy the show yet with new characters or the new writers.

For fuck’s sake, “some people” isn’t “everyone else”. There are a lot of people here, on Equestria Daily and elsewhere that like the show but don’t bother saying anything.

Some people will ALWAYS complain. Hoping that no one will complain about a thing is really stupid, honestly.

I don’t remember bronies bashing Season 1 and the first half of Season 2 that much. It wasn’t until A Canterlot Wedding that they started becoming more and more negative and critical.

People were bashing season 1 though. The difference is that those people weren’t bronies, but they couldn’t be because there were no previous seasons for them to prefer. And there was tons of bashing in season 2, you just don’t remember because you weren’t here. I only know because I bothered to do my research rather then just going off a vocal minority of posts that confirm my worldview while completely ignoring all posts that prove me wrong.

Plenty of people were disappointed as early as episode 2 because they expected Nightmare Moon to be a season-long adventure. But then she’s dealt with after one episode, using 🌈The Power of Friendship🌈, a trope mocked constantly for how lame it is. This, followed by a generic Apple of Discord plot had lots of people not becoming fans because the show’s not all that good.

I am saying this as a fandom veteran (not only pony, but others as well). When people first get into a fandom, you have two people: 1) people are are interested, and 2) people are not. (Though for pony, technically you also had a fair amount of previous gen fans, too, but I’m speaking in general terms.)

A brand new, shiny Fandom about a Thing is always going to feel overwhelmingly positive at first. Over time, though, fans of any fandom will inevitably criticize Thing They Like. It doesn’t mean they hate it. It means some aspect of Thing isn’t to their liking. This is absolutely normal about every fandom ever. Truly unhappy fans stop caring. The fact that people say anything at all means that they still care, and they are still invested enough in a show to watch it.

Also, people who are unhappy are far more likely to vocalize their opinions than people who people are content ( this is true of Fandom(s), politics, anything really). So, in any fandom, you will invariably get what seems like a lot of unhappy people. Happy people generally don’t have any particular urge to vent, so they tend not to say much. In fact, happy people may not want to have their parade rained on, so they’ll actively avoid posting where Unhappy Fans are venting.

You’re basically complaining that Pony Fandom is just like Every Other Typical Fandom now, and I’m trying to point out that you’re making yourself miserable by engaging in futile behavior. I’m saying that you will never, ever get “Season 1 & 2 Pony Fandom” back because it’s gone forever. This is no longer a “new” fandom, and has not been a “new” fandom for quite some time.

So “Daring Done” appeared on YT for purchase due to “To Change a Changeling” airing out of order, and Josh Haber is listed as a story editor there alongside the Lady Writers.
Background Pony #1AB1
“It Isn’t the Mane Thing About You” was attributed to Haber. And the episode actually had a handful of good twists and some really effective comedy. The break must have really helped him if this is the level we can expect from him now, since I usually associated him as a ‘paint by numbers’ kind of guy with these types of stories.

I’m just checking, are you guys SURE the lady writers will be working on Season 8? Is there ANY confirmation whatsoever? How do you KNOW they won’t be gone like all the other good writers?

@EyeGuy
We never said we knew for sure, but “Shadow Play” (both written and edited by Haber) was so dang good that I don’t care anymore.

He really seemed to make quite the improvement in season 7.
