Season 7 Episode Discussion [Speculation, Discussion, Spoilers] (SPOILER YOUR LEAKS)

Background Pony #BB94
In seasons 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, both the premieres and finales have been Twilight-focused. Twilight is the main character of the show.

Season 6’s premiere and finale was Starlight-focused.
Season 7’s premiere was Starlight-focused. The finale most likely will be as well.

It doesn’t take much of a leap in logic to think that Starlight is going to become the new main character and that seasons 6 and 7 are transition seasons, to end arcs and give endings to the main characters and even some side-characters (like Big Mac), and to make way to focus more on different characters. That’s not to say that they won’t appear anymore but it’ll be much less compared to Starlight, Trixie, Maud and whoever the rest of her friends end up being.

In an alternate universe or timeline where Starlight never appears in the show, I probably would enjoy it if Twilight was awkwardly shoehorned into every episode, even ones that had nothing to do with her. What I would enjoy even more is if Applejack, Rarity, and the other ones were useful in adventure episodes and finales.

Tomorrow is Samurai Jack’s grand finale and there’s nothing better than that to raise spirits after a Starlight Glimmer episode.

Eh…. My hype for the Samurai Jack finale has been sapped considerably.

Ashi has pretty much soured me on the season, not unlike Starlight herself. She’s this new writer’s pet who came completely out of the blue, saved Jack from himself, and is now in a completely forced romance with him. I fully will not be surprised if she’s the one who ends up killing Aku.

You guys do realize that Samurai Jack and MLP are for completely different audiences, right? It’s honestly pointless to compare the two.

Not necessarily. Samurai Jack was originally a TV-Y7 show aimed at a 10-12 market, the prime Cartoon Network audience for the day where as MLP is aimed at a roughly similar crowd. To see how the creators could take the story and morph it, use the lore and continuity set forth by the original to tell a breath taking story is something many people here wouldn’t mind seeing done with MLP, that the thing and ideas brought forth be used in such a way as to tell a truly glorious story covering so many themes

It’s not like the romance can last anyway. Jack needs to go back to the past and Ashi might even die.Seemed like a one time thing even.Considering the episode that followed right after.

Is the next episode the one with Luna and Celestia as well?

Samurai Jack is an action-oriented show aimed at 10-12 year olds. MLP is a slice of life show aimed at young girls. They can’t be compared.

Not sure if it can still be considered 10-12 now given violence. At first it would only show Jack stabbing, cutting and breaking robots but now human beings are no longer safe. Though we have another thread for this anyway.

How many more episodes does season 7 have to go?

I’m just a bit tired of hearing how Samurai Jack is the palette cleanser for bad MLP episodes (often episodes i happen to like)

i mean, i don’t mind if that IS your palette cleanser. More power to you, whatever makes you happy. But to bring it up so often almost feels like it’s being rubbed in my face.

Ummm… wasn’t it made clear that every last time portal has been destroyed? Jack has pretty much accepted that at this point, so he’s just settling for destroying Aku in the present.

Anything can be compared, this is the internet. Saying X is for Y therefore you can never compare it to Z is redundant. Yes there are major differences but that doesn’t mean comparisons or ideas can’t be drawn from one another. Also like I was saying the original target market was far more similar to MLP’s so comparisons are far more likely to occur.

@gingerninja666
It’s probably because Samurai Jack is what people want MLP to become like, and I don’t mean in terms of gore or violence or swearing (though if they get someone to say penis in MLP I will be laughing my ass off XD ) but moreso taking the elements that were introduced in the show and building upon them for greater character growth and theme exploration. I mean take Jack from the first four seasons, he’s a reasonably well off guy with what many would consider little character growth. Sure he’ll have a lesson here or there but he’s the ultimate big good, he’s wise and knows what’s right and is generally correct about how to act. So since he’s a static character then as many would claim, how do you develop him or tell a character story around him. Well you do what they did, shove the weight of the world on his back and watch him crack. People are saying the Mane 6 are done, fully developed and no longer have any challenges ahead of them. Well have shit start hitting the fan and see how they break, react or overcome that.

Must be annoying when the “I hate everything, everything about MLP, I have a problem with everything, everything!” crowd. show up as well :p

@EotD
To be fair, MLP only gets 26 episodes in a season. That makes it somewhat tough for the writers to give characters like Discord or starlight more development.
