You mean if say Granny Smith revealed at the end she made up the story about Mom and Dad because she wanted AppleJack, Big Mac and Apple Bloom to stop fighting with each other and teach them about harmony and being together?

well this cartoon seems to be taking a dive into looney toons land and dropping characters and lore under the train for a cheap laugh so the next episode could be anithing from the return of aj parents to her parents being both evil alicorns or maybe they all just grannys children whit lets say …. donnut joe

If they’re not dead, maybe they just dumped their kids on Granny Smith to raise while they travel the world. If that was true, they’d probably have a lot in common with Rarity’s parents.
 
Speaking of which, before I got into the show I probably thought Rarity was Sweetie Belle’s mom.

What if they are not dead, but everyone thinks they are from them having gone missing as a result of somthing that could not control?  
Loving parents tragically kept from being able to go home or send word to their family they are alive.

At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if that happened for real and the writer had tought it was a masterpiece.

One of the few times where they even mentioned the parents at all was when Applejack said that their parents would be so proud when Applebloom got her cutie mark.
