I was going to post this in the normal Starlight opinion thread, but crossposting it here since it’s more appropriate. This was a little snippet I wrote more to myself than actually responding to why Every Little Thing She Does was flawed as an episode.

The episode is about Starlight. It focuses on Starlight. The main characters and the main character all support and react to Starlight’s actions and, as the character in focus, reflects back as she reacts back to them. The reflection is not what the main character hoped. This “cross-examination” is relayed back to Starlight who reflects once again under her teacher’s guidance. She realizes now what the conflict was and attempts to remedy it with those same main characters who were affected by her actions. They forgive her, and the main character’s lesson begins to stick even with some difficulty. All the characters give their input no matter how seemingly superficial they are to us, since we’re not the receivers. It demonstrates Starlight’s reasoning struggle with her mind and magic. Here her reasoning part is addressed, and later episodes deal with other issues she has, such as her lost charisma and leadership skills (To Where and Back Again) , her anger (All Bottled Up), impulses (A Royal Problem), and her doubts (almost all of them) and how she, with the help of Twilight, the mane five, and her own personal group of friends, all play their part in helping this pony overcome her past and her present, for a better, happier future, while she herself helps them grow as characters by presenting a new challenge to their ambivalent philosophy for them to overcome together and serving as their living testimony to the power of friendship.
