Ok.
Hmm… I hate being negative, so I’ll get it out the way first. ||Meghan, please, if I ever hear the words ‘pacing issues’ and ‘worfing the princesses’ in the same sentence as your name again, I may cry.
Pinkie is my least favorite main six, because of her tendency to screech constantly and derail serious scenes with unfunny dialogue. On a scale from ‘someone kill her’ to ‘oh god why’, guess how much I liked her role in this film.
She also had a serious tendency to sound just like Fluttershy.
It felt like a Redwall novel, entirely built upon Wacky Wayside Tribes. And what they hell did Songbird Serenade have to do with anything? Seriously, it was like she got the role from the Make a Wish Foundation, and frankly all the previous MaWF ponies have actually been more relevant to the plot. I mean I don’t dislike her (she still looks amazing) but… why?
The fandom references were really obnoxious, especially the whole ton of them that were from season bloody 1! I mean we all know this movie’s been in production for a long time, but it felt really dated. Fluttershy saying ‘yay’ stopped being funny five years ago.
Ok… now that’s over with…
The villains were great. I liked the Storm King, I thought he was fine. Sure he didn’t have much depth, but he’s a self centered sociopath. As far as I’m concerned he rocked his screen time hard, and I found him really intimidating.
Emily Blunt was phenomenal, as was Tempest. Her animation, her dialogue, her delivery… everything was just awe inspiring. Easily the best villain the franchise has ever had.
The film just looked gorgeous. Every setting, every character, every animation. I’m really glad I saw it at the cinema. Personally I really liked the abandoned Hipogriff city, that was great.
The whole climax was excellent.
Capper was great, the pirates were great, Skystar… suffered from the Hipogriff arc being at the end of a movie running short on time, but was also great.||
I enjoyed the movie. I wish I could say more but… there you have it.
Oh, and I actually squealed out loud when Starlight and Trixie popped up during the credits. I’m such a damn fanboy.
