People who think that are wrong (citation needed). I’d put Power Ponies, Just for Sidekicks, and the Times They are a Changeling over it.

It’s the first episode I can think of when it comes to Spike when he is genuinely the hero and doesn’t require someone else to come and fix his mess while he runs around acting like a buffoon most of the time. After a mess of bad or outright cringey showings for Spike it was the thing that Spike fans truly needed.

Ok. That’s nice for you but overall the issue with his episodes and issue with a good amount of his fans was him being shown as a buffoon or a screw up constantly.
 
A lot of people loved Gauntlet of Fire because it didn’t do that. He was competent from beginning to end.

I’m not talking for a majority, you are. This is the unpopular opinion thread and I’m allowed to not find Gauntlet Of Fire to be the pinnacle of perfection like many people see it as.

Ok? Then I dont know why you had to tell me you liked episodes before it then? I was just agreeing with the statement Wiimeister made and explaining why it was the best.

They’re all good Spike Episodes.
 
I mean, not Princess Spike quite so much, but even it had some good parts.

Spike works best as a supporting character to the point I think he should almost always be in that role. I want him to support other characters more often than just Twilight and Rarity though.
 
Some people apparently loved his support of Starlight enough to ship them significantly. He should play support to others more often.

In my opinion it doesn’t showcase Spike at his best. Like, he wasn’t a snarky straight man propping up someone and giving good advice. He was just straightforwardly nice. And what advice he did give was almost insultingly simple. It’s the same “It’s nice to have friends” nonsense many characters give.

Scare MAster has one of my favourite Spike scenes. Spike encounters Fluttershy downstairs, points out how she’s already going against her normal fears just by her being there standing in front of him, and suggests it would mean a lot to her friends if she go say hi to them. He even does it adorably with his fake head nodding along with his suggestions.
 
That’s the kind of Spike that works to me. Not him being this saviour.

I actually thought ‘Triple Threat’ was a good Spike showing. He was charismatic, competent, organized and entirely devoted to well intentioned goals. It all went wrong and he made terrible decisions, but they were made in good faith and were fairly understandable.
 
The fact that Starlight and Twilight are complete chuckleheads in that episode might help.

It wasn’t intentionally racist, and I’m sure he’s a nice guy… but he came across as the most annoying sort of social justice warrior, who boasts smugly of his virtue and criticizes everyone else, while charging straight into the same unintentional racism as generations of the wonderfully well meaning but equally ignorant. And then proceeds to get super defensive when called on it.
 
It’s not a capital crime, but it is the kind of thing that riles people up for some reason.

The Spike of Gauntlet of Fire and Season 6 was a complete refresher.
 
I personally don’t like him. Don’t hate him either but there is only so much I can take of a side character giving snarky side quips all the time before I want to slap him. And honestly, the idea that Spike best showing can’t be when he’s in the lead role is kind of sad.
 
It was depressing of a sort that the idea of a Spike-lead role episode before Season 6 was “How would Spike majorly screw this up before someone coming along and fixing everything?”. It was an amazing change of pace to see him from beginning to end not be a character completely reliant on the Mane 6 to get him out of trouble or not digging himself out of a ridiculous hole he buried himself in from the start.

I still kinda wish they didn’t go with those “How to Train Your Dragon”-type of small dragons and kept the focus on the old big ones we used to see. Torch being all big doesn’t make up for them.

There is a potential solution… but very few except extremists would go that far, especially for a mere potential one.
 
As for others, they will come up for imaginary solutions for imaginary problems… which, against all odds (TAKE A LOOK AT ME NOOOW) may even have some tangible truth to them.

Hasbro should of made twilight sparkle ballerina music boxes and of the mane five also of the secondary ponies and background ponies and the non pony characters too after a royal problem seriously they would of made like millions of dollars from brony money alone if they did that I have no idea why they haven’t done this yet.

Oh yeah I agree. It’s not like the guy was trying to do anything wrong. It was just racist in it’s own way I think. Just, honestly, stuff like that should be talked about, because everyone has racist thoughts in their own way and that’s not a bad thing. Just talking about it on a level ground is how we all learn from it and all become better people, I think. :D

People really need to let the whole Toxic-Mario thing go. I know the thread about it was derailed into pizza posting, but it’s still mostly just bitching about an artist people don’t like because he did something they don’t like.
