No one really, not to me anyway except for perhaps a certain creator of the show even if she hasn’t been involved for a while. More, whatever a fan is comfortable with treating as canon or how strictly they want to categorize and divide things.
 
Myself, the show as well certain books such as the Journal of the Two Sisters and the Crystal heart Spell as “Mane Canon”. Yet I also I see the comics as “supplementing” the Mane Canon and expanding on what the show hasn’t or won’t show. If there is conflict, I find a way of getting the details to work even if it means adjusting the perspective. Then I throw in whatever ideas fans have come up with which I like that I can fit in.

Which is why I HATE when the moment someone brings up the comics, someone goes “THERE NOT CANNON”, which is 1. Not strictly true. 2. Adds nothing to the discussion. 3. Is rude. 4. Really gets repetitive.

I wasn’t saying the comics are non-canon; I see evidence that some are while some aren’t (Dragon Town has been all but jossed AFAIK and the Babs Rarara one may or may not be, hell, Bloom & Gloom possibly isn’t 100% canon until the fat filly moons, and Puppysmiles, Hired Gun and Moonsqueeze will each be up to 1000 images by the time that happens…)

He actually is kind of handsome. Remember when regained his CM? He had a special animation where he kind of transformed stock animation style. There was special emphasis on his appearance.

I do miss when ponies used to just have cutie marks simply appear on their flanks instead of them going through a super saiyan transformation.

Larson directed these episodes and I suppose the little big details like that one were included because of him.
