Unpopular opinion time

I’m not a fan of how non-ponies are portrayed in the show. The interactions between ponies and non-ponies always comes off as “White Man’s Burden”.
 
“Oh, I know! Let’s build a school so we can teach the non-ponies about friendship!”.

Yeah - I suppose it’s a transitional stage from ignoring them to respecting them.
 
(There are other races who aren’t walking friendship problems, but they tend to show up less after the early seasons and/or only have one or two members in the first place.)

I feel it got better later on, ironically due to the school being a poorly run mess which had to be saved multiple times by it’s own non-pony students.

I love the fact that Phyllis is blue-tagged more than I probably should.

Unpopular opinion: The student six are largely useless except for Smolder.

I’d think the Tree would disagree with you there. And why not Smoulder - because she can teach Spike dragon stuff?

I’d type that could extend to the pillars as well. Starswirl basically appeared in the premiere only so the audience (and the creative team) remember he exists.

Smolder was the only student I could tolerate and yet I still couldn’t quite like her, mostly because she made Ember completely irrelevant.

Well it’s not like Ember could quit her to to come and train Spike anyway.
 
And the Pillars are useful enough in the limited capacity they were designed for - it’s true that said brief exposure can make it harder for us to get to know them, but then it’s not like they’re main characters.

Of course not, but Spike always could have visited her, or the map itself could have sent him to lend her a hand with some issues, with Ember herself helping Spike to learn new things about himself every time he dropped by.  
Plus, their calm guy/walking nuke dynamic was good for lots of potential stories.

You know what this fandom needs? More anxiety pega. And I don’t mean Fluttershy.
