People keep saying stuff like this, but I’ve never gotten what they mean - the whole concept of “giving up” on a show is just … weird. I mean, you can still watch re-runs of Gilligan’s Island today if you wanted to.
Or not watch it, if you don’t feel like it.
No need to “vote” on it - just watch it if you like it and don’t if you would rather not.
Like, I’m still a fan of Star Gate, but I didn’t like some of the spin offs and didn’t watch much of them.
Does that mean I “gave up” on it?
Or did I “give up” on Battlestar Galactica when it ended? Or did it “give up” on me?
Just out of curiosity - did you “give up” other shows? Were there other shows where you had some sort of measurable “fan” or “not fan” metric toward the show or that might explain what “giving up” means to you with regard to an entertainment that most people get for free?
Like, did you become a fan of Star Trek and then “quit” being a fan somehow? Or did you enjoy FireFly but then had to fill out forms and submit a resignation because “episode n went too far”?
Or video games? Like, I used to play a lot of WoW, and sure - when I stopped playing it I had to actually submit a form to get them to stop charging me for the game. But I still like it. I just don’t play it. I quit my guild, but that just means they don’t get any more leather items from me. But I didn’t “quit” liking it.
And at the same time, there’s lots of people on the site who have “given up” on the show, but are still here - day after day - still complaining about the same things today that they complained about 2 years ago.
Or people who haven’t seen anything since Season 3 who hate Starlight Glimmer - even though they’ve never watched a single episode with her in it.
Have they “given up” the show?
What does “giving up on the show” mean to you?
How is the day after you “give up” on the show different for you?
