Oh no I’m running this somewhere else with a tabletop group I’m already part of.
Technically only my third time GM-ing, second if you don’t count the first time being a pre-written AP.

tfw can understand and even formulate plans around loopholes found in welfare conventions (I’d say “humanitarian”, but “human” is context-sensitive per setting.) restricting planetary assault in a sci-fi setting, but struggle to make characters do convincing small talk, or even slice-of-life behavior and actions.
this gives me an idea tho for an artificial intelligence-sorta character, like some kind of war AI. xp

If it makes you feel any better I barely know how to make convincing small talk IRL.

Name: Army Cpt. Helena Argent Pavesen (Service Number: 14214-39223-HP)
Branch: UNSC Army
Appearance: 5’10’’ (177.8 cm) tall. Somewhat pale skin underneath dark grey fur. Average in physical fitness for military service, weighing 154 lbs (70 kg). Mane is light grey and well-kept in a regulation ponytail. Eyes are naturally a very dark brown, but become a uniformed goniochromic pattern when under light because of a vehicular camera-to-pilot vision augmentation. Biologically within late twenties, but chronologically 61 earth years old as a result of slipspace travel time dilation and cryosleep. [ Accent & Dialect(Liberator - All Unit Quotes - StarCraft II: Legacy Of The Void) ]
Race: Earth Pony
Gender: Female
Notes:
Academics: military strategy, technology, and science.
Interests: war materiel, strategic assets, and strategies of the enemy.
Professions: attrition warfare, maneuver warfare, and neural/haptic control of powered exoskeletons.
Pilots a HRUNTING mark II [D] “Mega-Mantis” exoskeleton outfitted for overwhelming hardened defensive targets.
Vehicle Specifications:
Coating: Standard UNSC nano-prismatic vehicle paint programmed to standardized camouflage patterns.
Bodywork, Buffer Layer, and Interior Materials: 4’’ (101.6 mm) thick Titanium-A armor plating, “Frozen Smoke” thermal/micro-meteor/electricity insulating silica aerogel underlayer, graphene power strips, carbon nanotube batteries, limb joint transmission, and optical fiber cables.
Substructure Materials: Linear acetylenic carbon skeleton.
Power Plant: Sinoviet Heavy Industries tokamak w/ twin MHD(MagnetoHydroDynamic) plasma dynamo.
Sensors: “Panopticon” 360-degree FOV exterior cameras for normal, low-light, and thermal vision, MAD(Magnetic Anomaly Detection), LIDAR(Light Detection And Ranging), T-ray close range wall-penetrating vision, IMS(Ion Mobility Spectrometry) olfactory sensors, and gyroscopic direction sense.
Armaments:
On Right Arm: 30x184mm RCU(Repeating Coilgun Unit)-12 “Super-Stanchion” coil-autocannon with service life extension upgrades and special modifications; this weapon has been modified to double as both a coilgun, and as an explosively pumped flux compression generator capable of emitting directed EMP bursts. All that is required is switching the fed ammunition from propellant-less ferrous projectiles, to specially made blank-fire casings that explosively impinge into the coils to create pulses.
On Left Arm: 4 160x1160mm FLAIR(FLame Assault Incendiary Rocket) unguided rockets with triethylaluminum-polyisobutylene payloads, and 3 “Nikita” semi-active laser guided missiles with HEAT(High Explosive AntiTank)/Thermobaric tandem charge payloads.
Active Defenses:
Deflectors: Equipped with super-capacitors embedded within the front, top, sides, and rear armor sections that release a massive charge in front of the impact area of an incoming attack, creating a temporary, large, electromagnetic field that repels, dissipates, or destroys incoming solid and plasma projectiles, providing impenetrable (yet ephemeral) protection, but only against ranged attacks that the vehicle has detected. These deflectors have 20 uses before they must be recharged, which takes 2 hours.
LIPC(Laser-Induced Plasma Channel) Shield: This electrolaser defense system calculates the impact point of an incoming attack or blast shockwave, creating a temporary superheated pocket of air with a laser-generated electric arc that will intercept projectiles, disrupt and disperse plasma bolts, and absorb blasts. This provides protection even from infantry-thrown explosives, but is only effective against attacks the vehicle has detected, and can only intercept an attack in one direction at a time. This defense system has 20 uses before it must be recharged, which takes 2 hours.

The most brainraking part about it was grasping an understanding of the vehicle’s sciency stuff so that I knew what each feature’s purpose would be. (I guess this is one of the reasons UNSC ground forces use tried and proven 21st century weapon technology, coupled with futuristic stuff that’s easy to build and implement, like hydrogen fuel cell engines for warthogs.)
It was kinda the same hassle too with some of the character’s academics, interests, and professions. xl
@Pizzamovies
Some time just before or after 2539, 13 or 15 years before the battle of installation 00 in Halo 3, I think.
Since a vessel that contained one of those mechs (|| the ““CAA Heavy Burden[](http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/CAA_Heavy_Burden) ) was desperate to try escaping the battle of Kholo, I assume these war machines weren’t that common, like some kind of “wonderwaffe” being developed and built on the frontlines from firsthand experiences with the Covenant Empire.
The UNSC must’ve took one look at their own Mantis mechs ( entered service in 2403 ||), then at the Covenant’s scarabs, then decided to try making an embiggened version to even things out. The vehicle specifications I wrote though are not canon. xP

It all started when I was listening to the “OST for MechWarrior 2(MechWarrior 2 In-Game Soundtrack - 02 - “Silent Thunder / Rust Heart), when I was thinking “lel… mechs are cewl…”
I must’ve glanced at some point then at the nearby shelf where I keep my console games at, and saw several cases for Halo. Then I thought about mechs that were in the games, like the cyclops in Wars, the colossus in Wars 2, the mantis in 4, then finally the “mega-mantis” that sits in the middle of one of 4’s multiplayer maps.
When the sheet started to get really fluffy with blurb, I just kept picturing a mega-mantis quietly parked under the canopy layer of a gigantified alien rainforest on some exoplanet somewhere, waiting to spring into action for an ambush against a passing column of covenant vehicles… :P
(the rainforest part is because I eventually changed from the MechWarrior 2 OST to Halo: Reach Ambient xP)
The specificity of the mech itself was because I also kept replaying this(Steel Battalion: Line of Contact - 2nd Gen VT Startup) and “this(“Reactor Online. Sensors Online. Weapons Online. All Systems Nominal.) a bunch of times, thinking it’d be what a 26th century warbot would appear and sound like when starting up.
