That too. Basically, nothing about the name ‘griffling’ says ‘oh, that’s a hippogriff with less griff and/or hippo’ to me.
Personally I’d be in the camp of ‘don’t do anything’ and not add extra tags for all this stuff, but if we must, can we PLEASE think of a better name than ‘griffling’? I guess ‘classical hippogriff’ is okay, better at least, and it’s self-explanatory.

I’m mostly in agreement. If any new tags are created, I feel it’d be better to create a tag for the movie hippogriffs, as the fandom hippogriffs are so prominent at this point that they’ll always be the more popular style.

Out of curiosity, can I ask why you’d be in the “don’t do anything” camp? Considering we’ve got two types of creature with pretty obvious differences, I’d have thought being able to distinguish between the two in searches would be a worthwhile thing.

I mean he did say he didn’t feel like he had good ground to argue it. Without having a canon example of what a hippogriff is in this universe, there was a likelihood that the argument would boil down to what it has in this thread; fanon-style hippogriffs are too popular to reclassify.

I mean, there’s a reasonable distinction to be drawn between the species, so having an additional tag makes sense, and caters to those who both a want to see only them, or B those who dont want to see them.
As far as other names, Cirrus was discussing “equigriff”

Also, browsing the list of mythological horses, found a name for a rare hippogryph variety, where the front is horse and the back is griffon: Hippalectryon. Neat.

Gyro’s pretty big on avoiding spoilers, I doubt he actually knew about them until he watched the movie. Hell, I was the same, and I wasn’t going out of my way to avoid trailers and such.

But the movie also didnt make there hippogriffs correctly being part eagle.
Both cases arnt even hippogriffs technically.
Honestly we dont need to have another tag just keep the hippogriff as hippogriff for all. The community before has already has made this race a diverse race. This movie hippogriffs still fit in.

In your site rules it explicitly states that tag vandalism is prohibited, which includes bulk adding, removing, or modifying tags without permission whether that be from staff or the people who uploaded these pics. When Gyro made the change with his third party program, it was the artists and users who had to go through and undo the tag changes, which seems pretty “forced” to me, or in other words “without permission.”
In reality, we explicitly allow people to write and use third party scripts and programs to interact with the site, so long as they otherwise comply with the site rules.
