Unnecessary "futa oc:name" tags?

So lately someone has been going around adding “futa oc:(character name)” tags to tons of images. Personally I think they’re unnecessary. It’s just a combination of preexisting tags, and only adds clutter to the tagging section. A lot of them are also just wrong. They’ve been added to pictures where the character in question isn’t a dedicated dickmare, or in the case of some of my pictures, is actually a bustyboy. I know we have dedicated futa tags for canon characters, but that’s because there’s exponentially more pictures of them than there are of OCs, so having the tags for them makes sense. For OCs you can just use a combination of tags to achieve the same effect.
 
So, my question is: Are the tags needed? Or is it more appropriate to use a combination of futa/OC name/etc. tags?

Having no official say in the matter, I’d go with them being unnecessary. The existence of “futa character x” tags is in and of itself a bit of a compromise, as they’re aliases of the futa pun tags that were most commonly used for main characters. That the tags started spreading to background and minor characters is part of what lead to them being aliased into a standardized format, since they weren’t seen as being any more useful than the two tags separately.
 
In fact, the whole point of tags is to identify common elements that, combined, can be used to find or filter specific things. Single-use tags exist and serve that purpose well if there truly aren’t that many instances of something, and joke tags are fine by me. The difference here is that I think these futa oc tags started cropping up because of users simply following a pattern without understanding the justification behind it. Unless there’s some famous OC that’s known for being drawn as a futa nearly as often as they aren’t, I see no reason why OCs should have a tag for this specific purpose when even tagging canon background ponies this way has been seen as going too far.
 
tl;dr: Futa oc tags are so niche as to be counterproductive, just use two tags.

I don’t quite believe they’re necessary myself. And as far as I’m aware, only Fluffle Puff had her own futa tag before this. While all of the other Futa oc: tags have been created by 1 person.  
I haven’t felt a pressing need to remove the tags. So I’d wait for more input from other staff before doing anything about it, since the tags don’t cause any harm by themselves. Aside from the miss-tagging instances such as with said Busty Boy OCs.

So I searched through. And these are the tags that either already existed, being added by other people, or are of characters that aren’t normally futa, and are relatively popular [100+ images of the OC]

futa oc:georgia lockheart  
futa oc:hellen lockheart

futa oc:jade aurora
 
The rest are either characters that are normally futa. Or have, like, 20 or so images. Mostly futa.
 
So I’d say keep these, and then toss the rest.

I have only ever heard of those first two OCs. I think the rest can be ditched too and just keep the first two. (I thought you mentioned Fluffle Puff before?)

Well, fluffle puff is there too. But looking at it, hers were all added by the same person as well. and only cover 47 out of 2,527 pics.

But yeah, it’s all been done by one person, and they look like they’ve been working 8+ days straight judging by their tagging history. I just didn’t want to name names and call attention to them, because that’s not cool.

As a side note, did someone tell that person to stop adding the tags? I don’t know if they got the memo yet or not. (I know it’s none of my business, I’m just curious.)

Alias all those into futa oc and the work is done for you. Also make that tag imply futa and oc obvs.

Not seeing the point of separate “futa oc” tag. For overwhelming majority of these, you can search/filter just the actual “oc:X” tag, and for the rest, “oc[:X],[NOT]futa”. And it adds more work to tag all images that contain a futa OC.

How does ONE tag add more work that a few dozen tags that are specific to name?
 
Also filters are NOT the only reason tags exist, you know.

Because you have to retag it, as opposed to the default of adding the relevant specific ones.

Actually you would tag the same number of tags. Just “futa oc” instead of “futa” and bam. It’s tagged futa, futa oc, and oc for ya~
 
Also it’s the same as alicorn oc, humanized oc, etc~

So since the one user keeps adding to the tags, I’ve been going through in my spare time and cleaning them out, since it’s been agreed on that they’re bad tags and don’t belong. As for Zeb’s suggestion of keeping some and tossing the others, I say no. It’s either all or nothing. You can’t allow it for some OCs and not for others. Just because they’re a popular OC, it doesn’t make them a canon character. They shouldn’t get special treatment over other OCs because of that.

I’m not 100% certain if you’re joking or not, but to me it doesn’t really make sense to do anything otherwise. All that ends up doing is making a cloudy, mucky mess of tags.

My suggestion was agreeing with LightningBolt and aliasing them all into “Futa oc” much like “alicorn oc” and “changeling oc”.
 
The only individual ones I mentioned was when I was pointing out a couple that existed before the one person began adding more. But nothing beyond pointing them out as different~
 
Also: Do please stop removing them, since we’re planning on aliasing them. It would be nice for the new tag to remain on the images.

Unfortunately the problem with that idea is that the “futa oc” tag is used to refer to OCs that are exclusively dickgirls. The person adding the “futa oc:name” tags has been adding them to characters that only sometimes have a dick, so aliasing them would cause a lot of incorrect tagging.

Huh? That’s not how that works. If the character in the image is currently a futa, they get tagged with the futa tags.
 
Characters that aren’t always alicorns are still tagged with alicorn oc.
 
Additional additional: Yeah, we have mass tagging tools, so you really could have saved yourself a ton of trouble working on all those tags.
 
And since you still seem to be doing it: Please stop removing the tags and let us handle them. Thank you.

That’s what I’ve been told over and over in the past. Must have changed since then. EDIT: To clarify, I meant ONLY the “futa oc” tag, not the “futa” tag. I know that if the picture features a dickgirl it gets the “futa” tag.
 
Anyways, I’ll stop removing the tags if it’s causing you problems. You might want to tell the other guy to stop adding to them too, since they’re currently under debate. I was just removing them because it seemed like the entire topic had been forgotten until just a little while ago. Bad tagging makes me want to stab my eyes out.
