distracted my ass. she could ahve teleported or raised a shield to blocik the attack. and even THEN its unlikely that the spell could turn them both to stone at once.
also chrysalis is barely a sidenote. luna could have destroyed her in seconds. the sole reason she beat celestia was because of power boost even chrysalis was unaware of.
but of course plot contrivance. jsutl ike how cadance did not intervene in the fight herself.
According to twitter it was finished being written about a year ago, and the timing was indeed a coincidence. That doesn’t mean it took a whole year to write.

Any criticism, no matter how valid, can be dismissed with phrases like “they’d complain about anything because they’re complainers”.
So, which criticism is more valid, the people criticizing the comic, or those bashing the critics? Well, for what it’s worth, one of them addresses its target and the other doesn’t.
@cheezedoodle
Maybe not anything, but always certainly pop culture references, no matter how little they detract from anything there will always be complaints about those.
@Masem
It was not even Sombra vs Celestia, because they were fighting with their armies too. It was a war, not a one-on-one fight.
I actually just had a thought: remember how in Reflections the good Sombra was stronger than the evil Celestia, until she teamed up with Luna and became too much for him to handle alone? Seems to suggest that King Sombra has an advantage over Celestia by herself, but having Luna’s help tips the scales towards Sombra losing. And since Chrysalis is shown putting up a fight against Luna, the scales are tipped back if she helps Sombra.
@Background Pony #EE70
Not to try to apologize for the comic too much: Sombra vs Cele was even, but here was Sombra + Chryssy vs Cele + Luna, which did seem to be an even battle until Hope distracted Cele long enough.
@Masem
Also the story is about them conflicing with diamond tiara as well, so it being based post cutie mark would not work.
Still even if they do not KNOW they need to cover their bases. Because at this point, they have made a full blow contradiction to the show. Put simply in that sombra timeline, as neither celestia or sombra beat each other, its better to presume both of them are on par to one another. That means that celestia and luna together would be FAR more powerful than him.
They could have had it that the Umbrum can hold back Celestia and Luna and, even as they speak, they are preparing for war. That would put far greater stakes here because things bout to go down. And the umbrum would just want to escalate it.
Sighs. The slice of life tends to be good still, especially the stuff in the friends forever line. But this is the worst adventure arc to date via sheer execution.
Twilight’s expressions indicate she is more than willing to let Shining Armor be petrified as she already has a plan in place to ensure that he, Celestia, and Luna, are restored to flesh and blood and the Umbrum and Sombra pay for their crimes.
@kleptomage
I believe that the comics have a 6 month from idea to publication timeline. We’ve seen the WIPs from the artists and know that’s done about 3 months out, so the time to approve a script and write it out shouldn’t take more than 3.
But keep in mind that while they do check the ideas with the show (eg: the Rarity micro was likely going to be similar in theme to what Simple Ways turned out to be so they nixed it for the spa thing) they aren’t told full bore what would happen, so Cadance getting pregnant, for example, might not have been something they knew ahead of time. Same with the CMC cutie marks: while the next main two-story arc after this is CMC heavy, they won’t have their marks even though art-wise they would have had them by then because the story side wouldn’t have known.
This comic was written before season 5 outlines were completed, which was probably more than a year ago considering how long the show and comic both take to make.
